One person injured in accident near Adrian

On Saturday around 7:30 pm, a 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling westbound on 18 highway near route Z when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, resulting in moderate injuries for a 56 year old Archie woman.

The driver was transported to Research Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment; the truck was totaled and towed from the scene.

The highway patrol was assisted by Adrian Fire Department first responders and the Bates County Sheriff's Office.

The Missouri Highway Patrol no longer provides names of accident victims due to privacy concerns.

Linn Valley hosts Ding Dong Ditch Invitational?

There was a little excitement Saturday night in Linn Valley, Kansas leaving many tired and a bit... grumpy?

According to the Linn Valley police, a group of approximately 14 juveniles decided it would be a great idea to run around the Valley knocking on doors and running away. Unfortunately, a few competitors decided the traditional rules weren't exciting enough and added kicking doors and knocking things over in people's yards to the event.

That's where the game stops being funny.

The good news is our young athletes apparently underestimated two things:
Doorbell cameras and police officers.
The participants have been identified and the matter is being dealt with.
We understand kids are going to do dumb things. Most of us survived doing a few ourselves. But please remind your kids that there's a difference between harmless teenage stupidity and damaging someone's property or kicking their door.

Also, if you're going to play hide-and-seek with the police, remember:
We have cameras, cars, radios, and no bedtime. Thank you Lacygne PD for your assistance while the Linn Valley  Officer was busy at the jail with a different problem.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. After an investigation into this matter, a Community Service Field trip was conducted. The juveniles and parents were taken to victims homes after permission was granted by the home owners. Apologies and handshakes followed after some Community service was carried out. The offenders heard the stories that many might not think about in this matter. Stories such as prior burglaries causing PTSD, the fact that many home owners have guns and the right to defend themselves against intrusion of homes and the fact that dogs are protective of their owners and could cause serious injury to someone that is out committing a crime. A crime of disorderly conduct is not to be taken lightly. Times are different these days. Home owners should be able to enjoy themselves at home. They should be able to relax and enjoy the company of family, friends and animals especially late at night.
Parents are asked to please watch your children closely, teach them to be respectful of others and property and enjoy the many amenities that this community has to offer.
Being kind and respectful doesn't cost us anything, but is everything. -Brett Jenkins, Facebook

Papinville celebration all set for September 26h

Plans have been made for the Papinville Picnic on Sept. 26. We will be celebrating AMERICA'S 250th BIRTHDAY with a few changes, but we will keep a lot of the same enjoyable activities. Events will be printed at a later date. We will have a lot to do for young and adults.

If you have not been to Papinville lately you need to come out and see the new Papinville sign and the new fence at the cemetery. They are both beautiful sights. We thank all the people that put the fence up and the donations given to help with the cost. The people of this community love this area  and are always willing to help in labor or donations. Thank you. We want to thank Jerry Stangle who passed away  June 8th, 2026 for all his help since the beginning of the Papinville Historical and Cemetery Association was organized. Thank you, Jerry.

This year the stories will be about the things that happened from 1673 (when explorers from France came to this area) to the present. If you have not seen the stepping stones of history around the museum you need to come out and walk the journey of history. Each stone was sponsored by a family or person. We hope  to continue the stepping stones as history develops. WE have several stones that need to be added to the sidewalk.

Next week the time line will be from 1673 to 1820. There is no doubt that the earliest occupants of the area were the Osage Indians. There were many explorers that explored the area. They all recorded findings and drew maps of the area. A lot of the information will be from our "History of Papinville" book that we will have on sale at the picnic. We are selling tickets on a patriotic quilt and we havea Papinville patriotic t-shirt and hat.

Write down the date for the Papinville picnic  Sept. 26th. Until next week for the first story.  -Submitted by Phyllis Stewart

Rich Hill fire department staffing issue resolved

Following a mass exit of a large portion of Rich Hill volunteer firefighters a few weeks back, the city of Rich Hill announced earlier this month that replacements have been made bringing the current total to 15 firefighters, up from 13 prior to the exodus.

The original issue surrounded the naming of John Simon as fire chief the last week of July, much to the dismay of those who left- either way, the city now has the needed personnel to maintain proper coverage.
