Runaway teen in Cass County

RUNAWAY: Dorico Hilliard ran away from his Raymore home on Tuesday, May 25.

Hilliard is 16 years old with brown eyes. He's 5'7" and 130 lbs.

Obituary - Sharon Kay Webb Cliffman

Sharon Kay Webb Cliffman was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She left this world suddenly on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the age of 68.

Sharon was born September 27, 1952 to Darlene “Jackie” Jackson Klotz and Malcom Webb. On January 16, 1972 Sharon married the love of her life Lynn Cliffman. Sharon worked at both Fram and Precision Oak. Her main passion in life was always to help anyone who needed it in any way she could. Not only did she offer her kind and sympathetic ear, she also was unafraid to give tough love or advice. Sharon loved to bake cookies, play softball and bowling, attend family events, laugh loudly, take care of her pets, and chit chat in her kitchen with anyone who stopped by. She loved children, both those related to her biologically and those she took under her wing.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lynn Cliffman, of the home. Her memory is also carried on by her children Michael Cliffman and wife Tonia of Wellington, Kansas, and Amanda Cliffman Mitchem and husband Dustin Mitchem of Nevada, Missouri. She is also survived by her siblings Linda Webb Fecht, Douglas Webb, Dale Klotz, and Kelly Klotz; stepfather Melvin Dale Klotz Sr, and mother-in-law Marge Cliffman. Sharon had four beloved grandchildren, Michaela Cliffman, Erika Cliffman, Tristan Mitchem, and Conner Mitchem; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.

Sharon is proceeded in death by her mother Darlene, biological father Malcom Webb, and father-in-law Bob Cliffman.

A celebration of her life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, June 5, 2021 between 5 and 9 pm at Marmaduke Park in Nevada, Missouri.


Stolen Vehicle Recovered During Pursuit on I-49

Cass Co – Around 2:00 pm Thursday, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a 2006 Jeep on Peculiar Drive south of Peculiar with stolen license plates.

The driver refused to stop and continued to northbound I-49. The driver attempted to elude deputies and drove into the median of the highway. The driver then struck a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. The driver then drove into several yards and around houses in the area of E 211 and Astor Court in Peculiar.

Deputies continued following the driver near I-49 on the east outer road where the pursuit went off road through large farm field. The chase continued to a residence on E. 203rd Street where the driver drove into a field and struck a tree. The driver was chased on foot by deputies and captured near I-49 and E. 203rd about 7 minutes later.

Deputies took Justin M. Sherman, 33, Kansas City into custody as he attempted to cross I-49 near E. 203rd Street north of Peculiar.

Sherman requested medical assistance and was treated and released at an area hospital. He was then transported to the Cass County Jail.
The vehicle reported stolen by a victim in Independence and the license plate stolen from a victim in Blue Springs were recovered.

Today the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Justin M. Sherman, 33, Kansas City with 3 felony and 2 misdemeanor
charges:
Resisting Arrest by Fleeing Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury or Death - E Felony
Property Damage – 1st Degree - E Felony
Tampering with Motor Vehicle – 1st Degree - D Felony
2 Counts of Property Damage – 2nd Degree – B Misdemeanor

Justin Sherman’s bond is set at $10,000.00 10% Cash only.
“The men and women of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work relentlessly to arrest and bring to justice persistent and dangerous offenders who prey on our community. My commitment to the citizens is to keep Cass County safe,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

Wanted out of Vernon County




Update: Two injured in motor vehicle accident west of Passaic

On May 27th around 12:40 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Butler Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident on F Highway and CR 1001 just west of Passaic.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the when the 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by 27 year old Dylan J. Warren of Butler, Missouri failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled into the path of the 2001 Chevrolet truck driven by 25 year old Chance W. Gregory of Amoret, Missouri. After impact the Jeep overturned and came to rest on private property.

Mr. Warren and a juvenile male passenger in his vehicle both sustained serious injuries in this accident and both were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital and later flown to Research Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the accident by Douty's Tow of Butler.

Obituary - Bertha E. (Starner) Deakins

Bertha E. (Starner) Deakins, age 90, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home in Belton.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Heartland Family Ministries, First Baptist Church of Belton, 810 S. Cedar St., Belton, Missouri 64012. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Osceola Cemetery in Osceola, Missouri.

Bertha the youngest of eight children of Russell and Mary Starner was born September 6, 1930 on a farm near Osceola, Missouri where she lived until she was sixteen years old. Her parents moved to Peculiar, Missouri. She graduated from Peculiar High School. She married William Deakins on March 1, 1950. She had lived in Belton since 1953. She was a member of Heartland First Baptist Church since June 21, 1964, where she taught in Sunday School for thirty four years. She did some sign language and had many friends there. Her last employer was Cass County Public Library Belton Branch, where she worked for eighteen years retiring in 1996.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, one brother Lloyd Starner, six sisters Gladys DeLozier, Lorie Keeton, Bessie Caven, Irene Bonner, Ruth Keeton, and Laura Lee Dorrell.

She is survived by one son, Jim Deakins, a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Keith Crosby, Three grandchildren, Sara Falke (Josh), Samuel and Thomas Crosby, great grandson, Wyatt William Falke, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Heartland First Baptist Church as addressed above.


Cass County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of a phone scam. The caller is telling people that they need to pay a fine and ask for money over the phone or to meet.

We would like to remind everyone that the Cass County Courts or Sheriff's Office will never call you and ask for money over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call contact your local law enforcement.
