Hume students eligible for State competition


The Science Olympiad B division took 10th place at regionals last Saturday, making them eligible for State!
Congratulations to Hornets Sadie and Jasmine for placing 2nd in Experimental Design, Annabelle and Hailey for placing 6th in Meteorology, and Lola for placing 6th in Entomology!

Obituary - Mark Anthony Hauf

Mark Anthony Hauf (Haufie), 63, of Nevada, MO, was born on June 21st, 1962, in Marceline, MO as the youngest son of Irene and Albert Hauf. Mark passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 27th, 2026, at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin MO. On August 6th, 1995, he married the love of his life, Sharon Friedli and she survives of the home. Mark was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Mark served in the Army and National Guard as a young man. After the service he settled down in the state of Indiana where he married his late wife Katherine Hardy. He then moved to the Nevada area in 1992 where he drove trucks to support his family. For many years he drove long haul and was known over the road as Ghost Rider. Other jobs that he had included working on various farms. In the last few years of his life, he hauled rock for the Deckers Rock and Lime company. Along with his love of driving, he also loved to rile people up, especially his wife. His other passions were fishing, camping, cooking, woodworking, going boating, and watching his favorite show MASH, or any western - especially ones starring John Wayne.

In addition to his wife Sharon, to whom he was married for 30 years, he is survived by three children, Steven Hauf, Tina Wright Hauf, and Alexander Hauf; grandchildren, Kyla Hauf Baseman, Dominic Hauf, Angel Wright, Josh Waters, Christian Bottoms, and Dalton Hardy; great-grandchildren, Ozias Baseman Hauf and Octavia Bottoms; and two siblings, Sharon Crouse and James Hauf.

Mark is proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers George Hauf and Carl Hauf; two sisters Ann Hauf and Maryellen Williams. As well as his first wife, Katherine Hauf, in 1993.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6th, 2026, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at Ferry Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Pyle officiating.

Memorials are suggested in his name to the “Wounded Warriors Project” c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
