The Joco Sheriff’s office received information regarding a scam in their area and would like for us to pass on the information to the public in our area.
The Joco’s Sheriff’s office is investigating a scam that includes 2 individuals going into a business and talking with the receptionist, the scam artists inform the receptionist that they are from an Indian Tribe in Oklahoma and they work at a school for disabled children.
The individuals tell the receptionist that a person in the company (usually in management) gave them a tour of the facility in the past and they wanted to repay them by giving them a necklace that is handmade. During the initial reported scam , the receptionist kept noticing that the individuals were fishing for the name or names of people in the management department.
Joco intelligence detectives released this information as a casing mission, used by criminal travelers.
The mission is to get names of management that they can use when they come back later to gain access to scrap metal and even raw materials for parts.
The criminals involved in this scam are also known to come back later to commit fraud or possibly a burglary.
If you are a business, inform your receptionists. If you know someone that has a business that matches the style that they would try hitting, inform them or pass this on.
