From Poplar Heights Living History Farm

We're determined to Save Summit School, to move it to Poplar Heights Living History Farm, and to make it a comprehensive nature and education center. Hopefully, with everyone's help, we can raise the needed funds to make that move in the fall.

And while that project progresses, we also remember the other one-room schools no longer with us. Bates County had 136 school houses over the years.

We're beginning a new series highlighting those old centers of learning each week on Facebook.

If you attended a one-room school or had family who did, please contact us.

Please share your stories, your yearbooks, your photos so we can identify and preserve the heritage of all these schools. Of course, we are particularly interested, this year, in finding former students of Summit School and the other Summit township schools - Fry, Redmon and Herrell. Email us at info@poplarheightsfarm.org or call 660-200-5620.
