Ice Moving In Overnight

A significant ice event is underway for areas south of KC including Mound City, Butler, Nevada, Clinton and Warsaw.

Travel across these areas should be avoided tonight. Prepare for minor tree damage and a few power outages.

Further north we do expect lighter ice to start building into the KC and Sedalia areas later tonight with ice amounts similar to last night. This lighter icing should then build across the remainder of northern Missouri through sunrise.

A heavier round of precipitation is likely to spread into areas near and north of a KC to Moberly line tomorrow after sunrise and last on and off through the afternoon. Any ice that develops with this round is HIGHLY dependent on temperature. 33 degrees = all rain. 32 = light glaze on sidewalks and elevated surfaces. 30 or 31 = potentially significant ice of a quarter inch or more.

We're thinking areas north of KC will be around 31 tomorrow and the I-70 corridor, including much of KC, fluctuating between 31 and 32. It's not worth risking it if it happens to be 1 degree cooler, so please continue to monitor conditions and be prepared for hazardous travel through the day tomorrow.
