Verna Sue Peters, 68, of Leeton, Missouri, died early Thursday morning, December 29, 2016, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo, leaving her family and community devastated by her loss, having been touched by her love.
Verna was born April 12, 1948, in Lawton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Vernon Dale Snyder and Delila Charlene (Grissom) Snyder.
As a single mom with two young boys, Verna met William DeWitt “Bill” Peters, the love of her life, with the help of her brother Ronnie. Verna and Bill fell in love, got married, and the blended family began. Following would be many years of family gatherings, celebrations, and life-molding experiences.
Family was the most important thing in Verna’s life. She designated her life’s purpose to be a caretaker of others. She didn’t just talk the talk, she walked the walk through her actions and prayers. Faith was essential in getting her through a life-long struggle of personal and family health challenges.

She worked for a few years as a manger in the credit office at Wetzel Clinic. Her favorite job was driving the school bus for the Shawnee Mound school district. Many of her passengers are now grown children who remember the many lipstick prints left on their foreheads. Verna was a member of Drake’s Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Clinton; Xi Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; and the Shawnee Mound Ladies Aid. Following the sports games and activities of her grandchildren, shopping with friends, and cooking were things she enjoyed. She was a gifted musician, playing the piano and singing at church and for weddings. In her younger years, she played softball and was the 1962 Homerun Champion of the Ladies Softball League in Lawton, Ok.
