Laura Kay West, age 49 of Urich, Missouri died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Laura was born in Harrisonville, Missouri to Joy Harper and Gladys Harper (Cox) on June 3, 1968. She attended Lakeland R-III and graduated in 1986. She went on to earn an English degree and teaching certificate from University of Central Missouri. She taught English, to high school students at Lakeland R-III, for 7 years before pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. She left teaching for law school at University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2000. Laura graduated law school in 2003. Laura owned and operated a law firm on the Butler square. She was born to be an attorney, she loved what she did - helping others and advocating for justice. She was an active member of Butler Rotary Club as the Assistant Governor for District 6080 and the Missouri Bar Association.

Laura was a dedicated, self-driven, honest, passionate, youthful, and loving individual. In 1992 on a blind date, facilitated by her brother Charles Harper, Laura met her future husband Charles West. After that date, she knew he was the one and he knew they were meant to be together; 6 months later they were engaged and 4 months after that they were married on March 20, 1993. Charles and Laura shared 25 years of life together. They raised their daughter Alyssa West and helped raise her step-daughters Ashley West and Amanda Feo. They traveled extensively, had an overwhelming love for each other and their family, and lived unapologetically, without regret. Life at the West house was enjoyable and they were always looking forward to the next adventure.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Charles West of Urich, Missouri; three daughters, Alyssa West of Chicago, Illinois, Ashley West and Amanda Feo both of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Evelyn Harper of Urich, Missouri and Joyce Eddy and husband Charles of Chillicothe, Missouri; two brothers, Clint and Charles Harper both of Clinton, Missouri; her mother, Gladys Harper of Urich, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Laura is preceded in death by her father, Joy S. Harper and a sister, Eunice M. Harper.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Henry County Sheriff's Department, Urich EMS and First Responders, Life Flight Eagle, St. Luke's Hospital, and Midwest Transplant Network for all the care, love, and compassion they provided Laura and her family.
