Burglary in Osceola

On Nov. 16, a St. Clair County deputy was dispatched to Truman Road in reference to a burglary.

Upon arrival the deputy spoke with Roy Mart. Mart stated he had placed some money inside of an envelope. Mart stated when he went to check on his money, he noticed his papers had been moved and his money was missing. Mart stated $1,700 was missing.

Mart named James Schmutz as a person of interest. Schmutz lived with Mart for approximately seven months and may have known where he kept the money hidden. Mart stated he had recently kicked Schmutz out of the house do to Schmutz’s drug usage. Mart stated Schmutz may also still have a key to the residence.

Mart stated the last time he saw the money was on November 14.
