James attended grade school in Hutchinson, Kansas and graduated from Wichita Heights in Wichita, Kansas in 1968. On April 7, 1971 he married Theresa Colet Bowman and to this union two children were born. He moved to Amoret and then to Adrian, Missouri. James worked at Cessna Aircraft, Perry Construction, Cantrell Construction and finally at Continental Siding from 1990 - 2010.
James is survived by his wife of 46 years, Theresa Jarred of Adrian, Missouri; one son Russell Lee Jarred of Adrian, Missouri; a daughter Jenny Foster of Rich Hill, Missouri; two sisters, Marilyn Halliburton of Butler, Missouri and Mary Beth Triebock of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
