Larry Dean Bristow passed away peacefully at Westwood Living Center in Clinton, Missouri, on May 10, 2018. The only son of Dean Herbert and Nadine Virginia (Bumford) Bristow, he was born on April 30, 1940. He attended Westport High School, later graduating from college in Wyoming with a degree in avionics. During this time he married Pamela Sue Metz on August 3, 1962, and to this union two daughters were born: Shannon Lynne and Sharron Leigh. Larry joined the United States Air force in 1959, serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War where he worked as a flight engineer on C-141 planes, eventually becoming a flight engineer instructor until his retirement in 1980.
He then was employed by American Airlines as a flight engineer instructor on the KC-10 planes in Bossier City, Louisiana, then transferred to Maguire Air force Base in New Jersey. Larry and Pam finally moved home to Missouri in 1999 after his second retirement, residing in Appleton City, where Larry served as mayor from 2001-2004, where he proved instrumental in securing the Dollar General Store and the TIFF program.
Larry was tremendously dedicated to his work and a patriot through and through. Apart from this, the most important thing to Larry was his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who he loved spending time with. He further enjoyed serving as a park attendant at Sparrowfoot campground for eight years during his retirement. One of his favorite activities was traveling throughout the United States with his family in their RV. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
