Appleton City news


The 9thAnnual Wee Bit O'Parade takes place Sunday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. Lineup begins 1:00 p.m. at Forest Park. Anyone is welcome to participate in this family-friendly event; either with an entry in the parade itself, or by watching along Main Street. The parade will travel west from the Park along Main Street to the high school. Activities for the day include a Pet Contest at noon at Depot Park and Free Green Root Beer Floats at the Park building after the parade, courtesy of the Golden Apples. Get your Green on for St. Patrick's Day with a new T-shirt! A limited number of pink or green shirts are available at Davis Duo Design or Kreisler Country Pharmacy for $12 each. Sizes run from youth to 5X and vary at each location. Proceeds go to cover the costs of the parade. 

A delicious hot baked potato lunch will be served March 13 at the M.K.&T. Depot from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The large baked potatoes will be served with your choice of toppings of chili, broccoli, cheese, bacon and sour cream. Drink and a serving of homemade cake are included for only $7. Come and visit as you enjoy your meal in the Depot or carryout will be available. All profits will be used for maintenance of the 1870 M.K.&T. Depot, Old 1870 Library and Museum Complex.

There will be a Fundraiser for Emmett Heiserman, son of Tammy (Sargent) and Jeremiah Heiserman, March 17 at the Montrose Community Building (Knights Hall). 100% of the proceeds benefit the Emmett Heiserman Love Fund. The meal will be a Smoked Meat Dinner with all the fixins’ from 11:00-2:00 Adults eat for $10, kids for $5 and under 4 eat free. There will be several gun raffles, a bake sale, silent auction and a live auction starting at 2:00 p.m. Auction items and updates will be posted on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/335290837118894/

The Hudson R-IX Jr. High play will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14thin the multi-purpose building.

St. Clair County Historical Society will meet 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the County Library, Osceola. A program on "Southwest Missouri Women In the Missouri Legislature" will be given by Kathy Dains. Lulu Burns Poling will be featured in the talk. The public is invited.

AC Elementary PTO will host the 1stAnnual Mother/Son Movie Night Saturday, March 16 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the elementary gym. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. This movie night is for all little guys pre-K - 5thgrade in our community and the special lady in their life (mom, grandmother, aunt, family friend, etc.) to come out for a night of movie watching, a brown bag supper special, concessions, pictures and overall good fun. Tickets are $20 for a couple (add $5 per additional sibling attending). No RSVP needed and tickets may be purchased at the door for the movie/meal package. A brown bag special (choice of hot dog or nachos, unlimited popcorn and drink of choice) will be included as part of each ticket purchased. Concessions will be available for purchase through the evening. Each couple will receive a complimentary 4x6 photo to remember the night’s events. They want the movie night to be a fun, comfy, cozy night of sitting with your little guy, watching a kid-friendly movie, so, bring your lawn chairs, sleeping bags, bean bags, pillows, or whatever else will make you feel comfy. The Trinity United Methodist Church will have Lenten Noon Service and Light Lunch on Wednesdays through Lent, March 13, 20, 27, April 3, 10 & 17. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.

Appleton City Elementary PTO will host the 2ndAnnual Little Ladies Dance on Saturday, March 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the elementary gym. This dance is for all little ladies pre-K through 5th grade in our community and their special guy in their life (dad, grandpa, uncle, family friend, etc.) to come out for a night of dancing, snacks, pictures and overall good fun. Tickets are $20 for a couple (add $5 per additional sibling attending). No RSVP needed and tickets will be purchased at the door the night of the dance. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided. Each couple will receive a complimentary 4x6 photograph to remember the night’s events. Check out the AC Elementary PTO page with more information. 

Ohio Christian Church will sponsor a Ladies Retreat, "ENOUGH" March 23, from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. with featured speakers Robyn Eckhoff, Pam Bartz, Brenda Black and Lora Rucker. The Rockville Lions Club Pancakes & Sausage Breakfast has been rescheduled to Sunday March 24, 2019 at Rockville City Hall 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. A free will donation will be accepted.

Lenten Fish "Fry-Day" Dinners at Immaculate Conception Church in Montrose are scheduled for March 22 and April 5 from 5:00 - 7:30 in St. Mary’s School Hall. They will serve the “best fried fish around”, Suzy Q's, green beans, cole slaw, cornbread, cookie and a beverage. Adults eat for $10, children (under age 10) for $5.
