JUST A REMINDER OF THIS PRESS RELEASE THAT WENT OUT PREVIOUSLY
While we know that there are many differing opinions on this subject, the Council did come to the decision that removing these trees on Orange Street was necessary due to the continuing damage that is occurring to trucks, trailers, etc that are traveling on this street. Ultimately, these trees should have not been chosen for these small islands, as they are much too invasive for the space they were given. Even keeping them trimmed back from the road created a very unsightly looking tree if you ever really looked fully down the road at them while driving (the part by the road was cut straight up almost to the middle of the tree while the remaining side grew round and full making them very off balance.) I do agree that the trees were beautiful for about 2 or 3 weeks of the year when they were blooming, but even then, those blooms were blowing inside business doors, etc. We are discussing ideas for these islands to beautify this street again and my hope is to see something like some old fashioned light posts...or something possibly to highlight our "Electric City" and of course be more maintenance free....
The City of Butler is currently cutting down the trees and will finish cutting the stumps flush to the ground, and MODOT will follow up with spraying the stumps to ensure they do not grow back.
