Charges filed in rural Pleasanton Kansas Fatal Shooting

Monday, May 31, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office applied for and received an arrest warrant for Edward W. Theel for the attempted murder and aggravated battery of a Linn County citizen.

At 6:04 p.m. Sunday, May 30, Linn County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for a man shot in the head in the area of E. 600 Road in rural Pleasanton.

Upon arrival a 53-year-old white male was found critically wounded but still conscious at the residence. Theel (year of birth 1997) was also located on the property and was taken into custody for questioning.

The incapacitated male was taken from the property by American Medical Response of Linn County. The condition of the male was considered serious, and he was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in the Kansas City area. At that time deputies applied for the warrant, which was signed by Judge Terri Johnson with a bond set at $1,000,000.

At approximately 8 p.m. Monday, May 31, the male was pronounced deceased by medical professionals. Based on the passing of the victim, this office expects to have charges on file Tuesday afternoon, June 1, for murder in the first degree.

The case is currently under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information related to this crime should report that information to law enforcement immediately. The charges are allegations of criminal conduct only. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
