Sept. 11th is a sacred day for me. Many of you feel the same. I took seriously the promise never to forget. Most of you rightly think of victims and their families; others think of the first responders. I think of all those as well. But I also think of the Coroner and Medical Examiner folks who were traumatized forever too.
For all those reasons I’ve almost never missed the solemn ceremony in Adrian every year. Fire Chief Gary Dizney and his core of volunteers organize this each year and I appreciate it.
I have always wanted to do something special for this event but never found just the right thing. Until this year.
I am honored to bring my friend Jake Benson and his famous horse Freedom (registered name: Visions Enduring Freedom) to Adrian on Saturday. The photo will show you one of the reasons Jake and Freedom are so well known.
Jake is a Firefighter/EMT first responder himself and has found a unique way to honor the fallen and their families. It’s pretty obvious Freedom knows exactly what he’s doing too.
Jake and Freedom will be with us Saturday. Please see if your schedule allows you to attend for this special tribute.
