Obituary - Reverend Bill Whitener

Reverend Bill Whitener, 81, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo. He was born August 12, 1940 in Shelby, North Carolina, the son of Willie Whitener and Phoebe (Dills) Whitener. He married Mildred Katherine Tull in Belton, Mo., on March 31, 1961. She survives of the home.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam as a mechanic and flight mechanic. After leaving the military he went back to school to get his Bachelor of Arts at Southwest Baptist College and went on to get his Master of Theology at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Reverend Whitener served in a number of churches all over the country, among them, Norwood Baptist Church in Norwood, Co., First Baptist Church in Concord, Ar., First Baptist Church in St. Genevieve, Mo., for fifteen years; East Cape Baptist Church; Osage Ridge Baptist Church in Deepwater, Mo.; and Bear Creek Baptist Church near Holden, Mo. He never stopped ministering to people, always sharing the gospel with anyone who would listen. In his free time he enjoyed “tinkering”. He could usually “fix” whatever needed fixing, with his MacGyver methods. In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Robert Whitener, and his wife Tammy, Garland, Texas; Jerry Whitener and his wife Kristi, New Paris, Indiana: one daughter, Brenda Conway and her husband Joey, Clinton, Mo.; and nine grandchildren, Amanda Boyd and her husband Taylor, Houston, Tx., Emily Whitener, Garland, Tx., Joseph Conway and his wife Katlyn, Clinton, Mo., Kirstin Stanley and her husband Jason, Branson, Mo., Micaela Hubbard and her husband Isaiah, Clinton, Mo., Ben Whitener, and his wife Hallie, Middlebury, In., Isaiah Conway, Clinton, Mo., currently serving with the United States Army, Katie Whitener, New Paris, In., and Rebecca Whitener, New Paris, In.; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Guy Whitener and his wife Kay, North Carolina; one sister, Ruby Laughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. Memorial services are pending under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
