Expect Traffic Delays During Resurfacing Project on I-49 and

Route 18 Beginning Week of Feb. 21st

Southwest District – Drivers can expect lane closures and traffic delays when a project to resurface a section of I-49 in Cass and Bates counties and Missouri Route 18 in Bates and Henry counties begins the week of February 21, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The contractor will begin work by installing guardrail in various locations along I-49 between Cass County Route A/B in Archie and Bates County Route A/B in Rich Hill beginning the week of February 21. When that work is complete, contractor crews will suspend work for a time.

Then beginning in the spring, contractor crews will return to lay a new asphalt surface, permanent lane markings and rumble strips along that same stretch of I-49 between Cass County Route A/B in Archie and Bates County Route A/B in Rich Hill as well as a stretch of Route 18 between I-49 in Adrian and Henry County Road 1601.

Traffic Impacts on I-49:

  • Expect lane closures where contractor crews are installing guardrail and laying asphalt
  • At least one lane of traffic will be OPEN in each direction at all times
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • No signed detours
  • Drivers should find alternate routes around the work zone
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Traffic Impacts on Route 18:

  • Expect lane closures and traffic delays where crews are laying asphalt
  • All Route 18 lanes will be OPEN during nighttime hours
  • Drivers will encounter flaggers and/or pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • No signed detours
  • Drivers should find alternate routes
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
