Bates County Coroner Coroner’s Activity Report December 2022 & January 2023

The goal of my office remains to serve you with dignity and respect while handling these matters. Although this is a lesser-known and lesser-seen office among the county government,

Coroner’s Activity Report
December 2022 & January 2023

On Dec. 7, 2022 we received a geographical referral from Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office, KCMO. A 78 year-old male had died at a Kansas City Hospital following a possible accidental event originating in Bates County. Autopsy is indicated to rule out accidental origin. Investigation concluded with findings of natural case and manner of death.

On Dec. 11, 2022 we accepted jurisdiction of a death which involved fall injury sustained at a private residence prior to nursing facility admission. Death is accidental in nature.

On Dec. 18, 2022 we responded to a residence on report of male subject found deceased by family members. Investigation reveals death to be natural in manner.

On Dec. 31, 2022 we received a geographical referral from Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office, KCMO. A 61 year-old male died in Kansas City following transfer from this county following unknown medical event at home. Further investigation was necessary to determine cause and manner.

Investigation involving hospital course and medical record identified death due to natural causes. The Coroner’s Office reviewed five reports of death in Hospice/Nursing for December.

On Jan. 5, 2023 we responded to a residence on report of male subject found deceased by family. Death is due to natural causes.

On Jan. 8, 2023 we responded to a residence on report of a 57 year-old female found deceased by friends. Autopsy investigation is accorded and the case remains under investigation at this time.

On Jan. 11, 2023 we responded to Bates County Memorial Hospital ER on report of a 29 year-old female who died following transport from a residence. Autopsy investigation is accorded and the case remains under investigation.

On Jan. 25, 2023 we accepted jurisdiction of a decedent with no DPOA/ROS and no known family to take responsibility.
