Obituary - Jack Edward Bright

Jack Edward Bright, 93, of Pleasanton, Kansas departed us July 11, 2023, in Butler, Missouri. Jack was born January 12, 1930, in Nyhart, Missouri to John William and Lelah Pearl (nee James) Bright. He attended Nyhart schools.

Jack served in the Army as a medic, stationed with the First Cavalry 8th Regiment at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood). He was honorably discharged from the Army as a sergeant in April 1953 after a deployment to Korea.

On May 20, 1956, Jack married his best friend and partner Verna McCoy in Amoret, Missouri.

Jack was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church.

Jack was born into agriculture, and it stuck in his heart. Jack worked countless hard hours raising crops for himself and others. He was dedicated to farming, and enjoyed seeing the results of his labors, as he held a true interest in the growing process. He felt an obligation to the ground and diligently cared for it.

Traveling and camping were a shared passion for Jack and Verna. Jack drove many, many miles on their expeditions. Jack was content to be under a pine tree playing his harmonica. In their later years, they were snowbirds in Arizona and Texas.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Verna, his parents John and Pearl, and all his siblings William Bright, Lula DeMott, Goldie Schnichels, Bonnie Bright, and Connie Bright. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Patricia Jennings, Flagstaff, Arizona, and Colleen (Marion) Troth, Pleasanton, Kansas. Jack also leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews who will miss him immensely.

Funeral service will be 11 am Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Woodfin Cemetery.
