Butler Lady Bandits 14U Softball Team Firing On All Cylinders Against Penney Swarm


Butler Lady Bandits 14U won big over Penney Swarm 14U 13-5 on Saturday.

Penney Swarm 14U jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Brea Moore doubled, scoring one run, and Khloe Ott singled, scoring two runs.

Bandits 14U flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a hit by a pitch that drove in one.

Bandits 14U scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Braelynn Isaacson singled, scoring two runs, Kamryn Fritts doubled, scoring one run, Briley Warner singled, scoring one run, and Emalee DeLuca grounded out, scoring one run.

Bandits 14U added two runs in the third after AJ Stodgell singled. Ella Bauer opened the game for Bandits 14U. The lefty gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking four. Harleigh Evans stepped in the circle first for Penney Swarm 14U. They surrendered two hits and six runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking four.

Bandits 14U accumulated nine hits in the game. Isaacson, Stodgell, and Kallie-Ann Knowles each collected two hits for Bandits 14U. Isaacson, Stodgell, and DeLuca each drove in two runs for Bandits 14U. Kaidence Hudson and Stodgell each stole multiple bases for Bandits 14U. Bandits 14U had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Bandits 14U ran wild on the base paths, amassing eight stolen bases for the game. Bandits 14U were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Mylee Broege made the most plays with five.

Moore, Brynna Hankins, Remmie Sweem, and Ott each collected one hit for Penney Swarm 14U. Moore and Ott each drove in two runs for Penney Swarm 14U. Penney Swarm 14U were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Moore made the most plays with three.

Brick Street Bash a great success

Electric City Downtown along with Butler Main Street hosted the Brick Street Bash this afternoon on the historic Butler Square. The weather was amazing the crowd was even better as several came out and enjoyed great music from Fred Hunt.

A good car show full of some classic cars along with several food fenders were on hand to provide a great family filled atmosphere throughout the evening. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time as they checked out the vendors and visited with friends.  

The Mini Menage had a soft opening at its new location 11 S. Dakota Street on the south side of the square. Stop by and check them out!

Harrisonville Fire Department Open House June 7th

Last October a much needed renovation of the crew quarters began. We have anxiously awaited the end of this project and are officially ready to share the updates with the members of our community! Bates County Rodeo Team has three High School Competitors qualified for National High School Rodeo Finals

Bates County Rodeo Team has three High School Competitors qualified for National High School Rodeo Finals, July 14-20 in Rock Springs Wyoming.
 
Congratulations to McCrae Rogers of Hume High School for winning Champion in Trap Shooting at State Finals. McCrae was not only the Missouri State Finals Champion but also the 2023-2024 Trap Shooting season Champion.
 
Congratulations to Brock Lines of Butler High School for winning 3rd place for the 2023-2024 season in BareBack Riding. This was Brock’s rookie year in rodeo.
 
Congratulations to Cameron Anderson of Butler High School, winning Champion in Bronc Riding at State Finals. Cameron is not only the Missouri State Finals Champion but is the 2023-2024 season Reserve Champion.
 
McCrae also competed in Bull Riding but did not qualify for Nationals in that event. During State Finals McCrae suffered an injury on his second go round that prevented him from participating in Saturday’s performance.
 
Although the Missouri High School Rodeo Season is officially over for our kids, we have some up and coming contestants to watch for next year.
 
Dalley Steuk of Hume Missouri finished the season 35th in the average in Barrel Racing. Addie Johnston of Merwin Missouri finished 36th in average in Barrel Racing.
 
Addie also competed in Poles and finished 21st in the average for poles.
 
This was both girls rookie year and we saw major improvement throughout the year and we are excited to see what next year brings for these young women.


Obituary - Harley Wayne Rhoades

Harley Wayne Rhoades was born October 20th, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Harley left us on April 27, 2024. The second son of Everett and Margie Rhoades and grew up in Peculiar Gardens and later moved to Warsaw, Missouri area. He graduated from Raymore Peculiar High in 1976 and studied small engine mechanics. Harley was always creating things and working on motors.

Thru his life he made lots of friends who have become like family everyone he met seem to like him and he didn’t know many strangers and was always ready to help anyone who needed it.

Harley loved motorcycles from an early age. He loved riding with anyone, liked hunting, fishing, anything to do with the outdoors. He liked eating out and cooking BBQ. He was a master of everything he did and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Margie Bush Rhoades-Hobbs, his father Everett Andrew Rhoades.

Harley is survived by his brothers Don Rhoades Lowry City, Tim Rhoades Lowry City, Perry Rhoades Harrisonville; the love of this life Heather; an uncle Jim Bush Independence; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a whole lot of brothers and sisters. Obituary - Sondra Sue Davis

Sondra Sue Davis, 82, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Nathan Richards Nursing Home. Sondra was born November 28, 1941, in Versailles, MO.

She was married 24 years to the late Donald Sinclair Davis. Sondra taught Speech and Debate, as well as Theatre, at Nevada High School for 16 years, retiring in 2008. Sondra was a long time member of the Nevada CCPA She lived in Vancouver, British Columbia for a number of years before coming to Nevada.

Sondra is survived by her son, Matthew Davis of Springfield, MO along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

There are no services planned at this time.

Martha Lucille McCarthy, age 89 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Butler Center. She was born July 27, 1934 to Joseph Charles and Martha Elizabeth Brown Seals in Kansas City, Kansas.

Lucille is survived by two daughters, Carol Henry and husband Jim of Butler, Missouri and Mary Gibson and husband Mike of Moberly, Missouri; four grandchildren, Julie Lines (Jason), Jamie Young (Tim), Amanda and Josse; 12 great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Emmalie, Brock, TJ, Carson, Dalton, David, Azalea, Atticus, Shelby and Haylee; and two great-great-grandchildren, Fynn and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Randy Appleberry; and two brothers, Donald and Melvin Seals.

Harrisonville woman injured in three vehicle accident in Cass County

On Friday May 31st around 4:26 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a three vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 170.6 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a northbound 2022 Toyota Sienna driven by 40 year old Shireen N. LNU of Groves, Texas was slowed for congested traffic when a vehicle behind her a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 22 year old Taylor J. Goodfellow of West Plains, Missouri struck the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by 39 year old Misty M. Overcast of Harrisonville, Missouri causing the Impala to travel off the left side of the roadway, and strike a median cable barrier. The Impala then struck the rear left corner of the Toyota Sienna.

Misty M. Overcast sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by South Metro Fire to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Bourbon County Kansas man arrested on three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge

According to a complaint filed with the District Court of Bourbon County, KS, 27-year-old Alex Keanu Jacobs has been charged with a Severity-Level-3-Person Felony count of attempted murder in the second degree. For allegedly strangling his victim, as well as banging their head on a brick floor and disconnecting their calls to 911 on Friday, April 26th, 2024.

The complaint shows Jacobs was also charged with Severity-Level-7-Person Felony count of aggravated domestic battery for allegedly impeding the circulation of blood or breathing of someone with whom he has a relationship with or lives with. 

Mr. Jacobs also received a charge of Severity-Level-9-Person Felony for allegedly unlawfully communicating a threat with intent to place another in fear, as well as a Class-A-Person Misdemeanor for allegedly unlawfully restraining another person to interfere substantially with their liberty.

The arrest warrant wasn't received and executed by the Bourbon County Sheriff's office until Thursday, May 30th, over a month after the alleged incident.

Jacobs is still waiting for a date for his first appearance in court. His bond is currently set at $100,000.




Nevada teenager injured in Vernon County rollover crash

On Friday May 31st around 6:20 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident around one mile east of Moundville, Missouri on Talley Bend Road.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 17 year old juvenile female from Nevada, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the road before striking a fence and overturning.

A passenger in the van a 17-year-old juvenile female from Nevada, Missouri sustained minor injuries and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Vehicle fire this morning in Rich Hill

In the early morning hours of Saturday June 1st the Rich Hill Fire Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle fire at a residence located on Elm Street in Rich Hill.

No one was injured in this fire and the cause of the incident is still under investigation at this time.

Jim Lewis Retirement from the City of Butler

The City of Butler is giving a retirement party in honor of Jim Lewis on June, 14th, 2024 from 1:00 pm through 3:00 pm. in the Council Chambers at City Hall in Butler.

Jim has faithfully served the City for 46 years at the Water Plant. He also volunteers with the Fire Department and responds to various calls they receive.

Please come and greet Jim and let’s give him a good start toward his new endeavors.

Immanuel Baptist Church Names New Interim Pastor

It is our honor and privilege to welcome Dr. David Sundeen as our new Interim Pastor of the Butler Immanuel Baptist Church. He has been the guest speaker the last two weeks at IBC. Dr. Sundeen and his wife, Julie, have graciously agreed to serve alongside us until we find a new Lead Pastor.

He currently is a professor at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City as well as the Vice President of Organizational Culture & Care for the Baptist Homes.

Previously Dr. Sundeen has served several times as an interim pastor at various churches & also served as a missionary with the North American Missions Board. Come help us officially welcome him Sunday morning!

Search warrant served in Lamar

On 05/31/24, as the result of an investigation of illegal narcotics, the Lamar Police Department served a search warrant in the 1400 block of Poplar. 

After the search, Tyler E. Jones, 26 of Lamar, was taken into custody for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. At the time of this post, he is in custody at the Barton County Jail.

The Lamar Police Department encourages anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lamar to contact the department at 417-682-3546.

As is the case in all arrests, charges are based on probable cause and all persons are considered innocent until or unless found guilty in court.

Adrian 4th of July Celebration

























The Adrian Optimist Club presents the annual Adrian 4th of July celebration on Saturday, June 29th. All the fun starts at 2:00 pm with the traditional parade.

Grand Marshall, Andy Enos will lead the parade down Adrian Main Street after line up at 1:30. The Parade theme is “ Salute to Freedom”. The parade is followed by the Water Balloon fights at 3:00 “listen for the Adrian volunteer Fire Department Sirens” , It’s Corn Hole at 3:00 with a $50 dollar entry fee and double elimination.

All this and more at the Adrian 4th of July Celebration, listen for more all-day events with the grand finale of the National Anthem performed live by Jeremy Bridges and the Fireworks display at dusk.. those attending the fireworks display will enjoy this years added attraction as the fireworks display will be synced to music from the 95.9 frequency on your car radio.

Delbert “Del” McDaniel, age 49 of Appleton City, Missouri died Friday, May 31, 2024 at his home. He was born December 21, 1974 to Wesley Dean and Mona Marie Wix McDaniel in Butler, Missouri.

Del is survived by his wife, Courtney Lin McDaniel of the home; five children, Krissy Rhea and husband Keenan of Overland Park, Kansas, Dakota McDaniel of Butler, Missouri, Britney McDaniel, Shelby McDaniel and Colton McDaniel all of the home; his parents, Wesley and Mona McDaniel of Butler, Missouri; his parents-in-law, William and Sandra McLaughlin of Butler, Missouri; and two siblings, Jonathan McDaniel of Kansas City, Missouri and Janice Martinez and husband Lewis of Broomfield, Colorado. Butler High School Senior Receives Scholarship from Mediacom

Mediacom Communications announced the selection of Gage McGee a senior at Butler High School, as a recipient of the company’s World Class Scholarship Program. The $1,000 scholarship recognizes the Butler resident for excellence in leadership and academics.

Harrisonville woman escapes serious injury in Cass County crash

On Friday May 31st around 8:40 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident southbound Prairie Lane just north of Raymore.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when southbound 2003 Lincoln Navigator driven by 45 year old Darren L. Snyder of Harrisonville, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

A passenger in the Lincoln 47 year old Angela M. Snyder sustained minor injuries and she will seek her own medical treatment at a later time.

Obituary - Carole B. Carey

Carole Beth (Barnes) Carey, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born September 14, 1938, to Twanitta (Garrett) and Norman Barnes in Columbus, Kansas. She graduated from Picher, Oklahoma, high school. Carole married Donald Carey on November 24, 1953, in Columbus, Kansas, while he was home on leave from the Navy. 

They lived in Pensacola, Florida, until his tour of duty expired, and then moved back home to Commerce, Oklahoma. Don was offered a job at Bendix in Kansas City and moved his family to Harrisonville. They were the parents of two daughters, Tela Carey Gough and Shelley Carey Jansen.

Carole retired in 1998 after more than 30 years as an administrative assistant in the Harrisonville school system. She had been a member of Harrisonville First Christian Church for over sixty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She leaves her daughter Tela (Corey Hinrichs) Gough, Shelley (Steve) Jansen; grandchildren Sarah (Heath) Cummings, Eli (Jenny) Gough, Anna (Thomas) Ponder, and Leah (Alex) Burch; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Health, and Lucas Cummings, Carter Cole, Henry Gough, and Tegan and Charly Byrd; great-granddaughter Ashlyn Salisbury.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Dickey Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 4, 7-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association

Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City would like to congratulate and thank Beverly Johnson for 50 years of dedication! (And still going!!) 

Bev began at Ellett the day after she graduated high school and has done many jobs. She started as a data processor, then moved to billing, then to accounting/finance. She has been the Business Office Director for 34 years!

Beverly was also one of the volunteer EMT's years ago! She has seen many changes over the years and has worked with over 20 administrators. 

Beverly has lots of interesting stories to share! She's been through some of Ellett's best times and some of their worst, but she has remained a loyal, dedicated employee throughout all of it. We appreciate everything Beverly does for our facility!

Obituary - William Francis Gorman

William Francis Gorman was born on November 20, 1934, to Thomas and Frances Gorman and was the youngest of three boys. Bill was born in Osceola, MO. and at the age of eight, the family moved to Kansas City, MO where he later attended Northeast High School.

Bill was married to Stella Gorman for 65 years. They met when his best friend Dee Hamilton suggested they take some girls a couple of blocks over on a motorcycle ride. That’s when he met the love of his life and two years later Bill and Stella married in their pastor's Raytown, Mo. home on June 2, 1955.

In 1957 Bill was called to the US Army where he served as a mechanic on tanks and heavy equipment in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Stella soon joined him in Kentucky and later their first son Bill Jr. was born there in 1958. Bill and Stella welcomed two more sons, Steven in 1962 and Daniel in 1965.

Bill was a Senior Master Mechanic with the Operating Engineers Local 101 and worked on all manner of heavy equipment. He could build or repair anything put in front of him and in retirement spent many hours, days, and weeks building model engines from blocks of steel and aluminum. He delighted at showing off his creations to his family, and friends and at numerous engine shows across the country. He was a frequent contributor to Model Engine Builder Magazine and a member of the Lathrop Model Engine Club.

Bill had an active church life and had recently joined Coventry Baptist Church in Independence, Mo where he felt welcomed and at home. Pie making of all things was his specialty and he brightened many a day with them.

Bill lived his life to the end in the fullest way possible. Most recently he had delivered Mother’s Day flowers to three churches, three pies to close friends who could use a smile, and laid flowers on the gravesites of numerous friends and family that had passed before him. He was a rock and an anchor for his family and community.

Bill and Stella were blessed with five grandchildren, Kelly Glass (Michael), Samantha Price, Josh Gorman (Desiree), Kenneth Gorman (Hannah), and Caleb Gorman (Kirsten), and five great-grandchildren, Carter and Preston Glass, Maci and Matthew Price and one unborn child Baby Frydenlund.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife Stella, his parents, brothers Don and Ray, son Daniel, and daughter-in-law Kim Gorman.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31st at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Climax Springs, Mo. cemetery following the services.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the General Missionary Fund at Coventry Baptist Church, 17133 E 39th Street, Independence, Mo, 64055.

Congressman Mark Alford visits the Osage Valley Electric Cooperative office yesterday

Congressman Mark Alford, along with several members of his staff, took time to visit the Osage Valley Electric Cooperative office yesterday. We appreciated the opportunity to talk to the group about the cooperative and our infrastructure. 

We discussed our broadband project, broadband funding and our concerns about the impact recently released EPA regulations will have on the reliability of the electric grid. 

Thank you Congressman Alford for listening to our concerns. We sincerely appreciate him and his team for their interest in our cooperative.





Obituary - Patricia Guth

Patricia Guth, 66, died from cancer on May 27, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care in Kansas City MO.

A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

She was born on November 7, 1957, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Walter Sparks & Agnes Lillianne (Larsen) Sparks. Patricia graduated from Hickman Mills Senior High School, Class of 1976. Following graduation, she attended College and worked as a Postal Carrier at USPS as well as a Lab Technician at Marion Merrill Dow and Sanofi-Aventis.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillianne, her sister Shirley Steelman, and grandson Corbin Coffelt.

She is survived by husband Kenn Guth whom she married in 1979; daughter, Jenifer Coffelt (Ryan) and their children Aviana and Dylan; daughter, Jesica Cole (Gary) and their daughter Mia; three sisters, Jan (Skip) Cornelius, Katherine (Robert) Seamon, and Mary Alger; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the area by this evening. Highest amounts are expected in far western MO and eastern KS. Widespread hazardous weather is unlikely, however brief heavy rainfall may lead to some localized flooding especially in NW MO.
