Tommy Eugene Reed was born May 7, 1939 to Albert L. Reed and Geraldine (Page) Reed in rural Rich Hill Mo. He started his school education in Metz Mo and graduated in 1957. After a courageous battle with cancer over the past 3 ½ years, he passed from this life on February 5, 2025, at Kansas University Medical Center at age 85.
He was married on September 7, 1958, to the love of his life, Glenda Colleen Farrell. Tommy and Colleen were the proud parents of two daughters—Anita Eileen Reed and Lori Ladeane Reed. He and Colleen celebrated 66 years of marriage this past September.
After graduation, Tommy began farming in rural Rich Hill which he happily continued to do for 67 years. He enjoyed crop farming and many years in the cattle business with his daughters showing numerous Champions at the fairs. In recent years, he continued farming with his grandson Matthew Byers. He was active in 4-H as a member and leader as well as a long-time member of the Metz Methodist Church.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Geraldine Reed, brother Larry W. Reed and sister MaryAnne (Reed) Adams. Survivors include his wife Colleen Reed, of the home; a sister Patty Sue (Reed) Cole of Russellville, Ark; daughters Anita Byers (Steve) of Nevada, Mo and Lori Mabe (Tom) of Overland Park, Ks; grandchildren Matthew Byers (Kendra) of Nevada, Mo, Alyssa (Byers) Cederman (Kurt) of Kansas City, Mo, Allison Mabe, Kansas City, Mo and Kyle Mabe, Overland Park, Ks; great-grandchildren Reed and Reese Byers, Asher Cederman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held February 11 at Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Vernon County Youth Fair or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
