Janice Rozann Schiebrel, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Nevada, Missouri June 30, 2026. Born to Leslie and Ruby (Carroll) Carpenter on October 7, 1942, Janice grew up on the family farm in the rural Rockville, Missouri area. As a child, Janice was a day dreamer who loved to run around in the timber and pastures. Her summers were highlighted by visits from the book mobile as even then, she loved reading books. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, graduating from Appleton City High School in 1960.
Shortly after graduation, Janice married Dallas Yockey, and together they had four children. She later married Bob Schiebrel.
Janice’s faith was an important part of her life. She was baptized at Mount Zion Methodist Church at the age of nine. Her gentle nature, kindness, and warm smile made her beloved by everyone who knew her.
In her early years, Janice worked for three years at Key Work Clothes in Nevada, that was followed by many years in the family business, Yockey Motors. In 1979 she began a remarkable 45-year career with Walmart, working in Nevada, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Kansas City. Janice treasured her Walmart co-workers and considered them part of her extended family.
Janice’s love of reading books continued throughout her life, along with working puzzles, watching tennis, attending ice-skating events with her sisters, and following the Olympics. She loved tending to her flower garden and spent many joyful moments watching Monarch butterflies with her neighbor, Michelle.
Preceding Janice in death were her parents Leslie and Ruby; her stepfather Paul Everson; two brothers, Jack and Jerry Carpenter; one sister Neoma Mauer; one grandson Austin Brown; and two nephews, Jackie Dale Carpenter and Lewis “Lewie” Mauer.
Survivors include her children: Jeff Yockey, Shawn Yockey, Candy Yockey (Slade), and Cory Yockey, all of Nevada, Missouri; her grandchildren: Zack Yockey of Springdale, Arkansas, Kira Brown of Springfield, Missouri, and Drew Yockey of Joplin, Missouri; she also leaves behind two great-granddaughters, Holdyn Brown of Nevada, Missouri and Eileen Brown of Springdale, Arkansas; her siblings: Leslie Carpenter (Barbara) of Appleton City, Missouri, Eva Ballard (Seldon) of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Wanda Otto of Kansas City, Missouri, and Linda Shindler of Overland Park, Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews.
Janice’s life was defined by love, loyalty, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family and the joy she brought to those around her.
Memorial donations are suggested to Appleton City Library and may be left at Hill & Son Funeral Home.
