8 year old boy killed in Kansas fire

On 12/10/16 around 2:15pm the Montgomery County Kansas Sheriffs Office along with several fire crews responded to the death of a 8 year old boy in a structure fire in Dearing Kansas which is located in Southern Kansas close to the Oklahoma state line.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found a fire outside the home near an unattached garage. 
Heavy smoke and fire damage was reported to the West side of the unattached garage.

The death of the boy has been extremely hard for the small community of about 414 people. Mid America Live News will updated when more information is made available to us.

Obituary - Shaddix Jacoby Michael Nickelson

Shaddix Jacoby Michael Nickelson, infant son of Ashlay Jackson and Cody Nickelson, died Wednesday, December 7th, 2016, at Mercy Hospital.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother Jaiden Logan; maternal grandparents Frank and Alysha Parker, and Robert Jackson; paternal grandparents David Michael Nickelson, and Cindi Gill; maternal great grandparents Jim and Joyce Young; paternal great grandparent Shirley Allen; aunts and uncles Patrick and Robin Schreiner, Kelly Parker, William and Thomas Jackson, and Colby Gill; cousins Lucian, Timothy, and Alexa Schreiner; and God parents Kearie Fuhr and Jake Foster. He was preceded in death by Clarence “Tink” Stumfoll, Everett “Bud” and Joan Jackson; and Donald “Pete” Williams.

Private burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Shaddix Nickelson Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.


Three Drexel teens injured in Bates County crash

On 12/10/16 around 10:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriffs Office responded to one vehicle accident on NW 12001 just North of Route A in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero driven by 16 year old Chase W. Wright of Drexel, Missouri lost control of his vehicle causing it to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike a tree.

Chase W. Wright along with two passengers in his vehicle 13 year old Ivan A. Sosa and 13 year old Isabella A. Moise both of Drexel, Missouri all sustained minor injuries in this accident and all three were transported by private vehicle to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by a private tow.

Obituary - Martin Russell McCormick

Funeral services for Martin McCormick will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill, Missouri. Contributions to Friends of Greenlawn or Shawnee Mission Cancer.

Martin Russell McCormick, age 87 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at his home in Butler. He was born March 17, 1929 to Forest Ellis and Verna Alice Webb McCormick in Metz, Missouri.

Martin is survived by his wife, Lois McCormick of Butler, Missouri; one son, Donald McCormick and wife Christine of Raymore, Missouri; one daughter, Terri Ellis of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Rex McCormick and wife Vera of Louisburg, Kansas; one sister, Delores Cronin of Kansas City, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Lennie Dale of Hume, Missouri; five grandchildren including Sonita Loyd of the home; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Evelyn Dale; infant son, Tommy; and infant daugher Sheila.



Obituary - Lillie Hatten

Lillie Hatten, 92 of Butler, Missouri passed away December 9, 2016. Cremation, with Memorial Services scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Butler Presbyterian Church with Pastor Mari Lyn Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM prior to services at the church. 

Private family internment will occur at a later time in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Butler Public Library or Butler Presbyterian Church. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.
