A single father has been identified as the victim of a trench collapse in Belton, Mo yesterday. Donald Meyer, 30, of Oak Grove was killed after entering an open trench while digging a sewer connection to a new home.

Wrong way driver poses threat during fire call last night

Working an incident along I-49 can be bad enough, especially at night, notwithstanding any added danger.

Last night the Adrian Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire just north of the AA and E overpass in the southbound lanes of I-49, when a second call was dispatched concerning a driver heading north from Adrian, also in the southbound lane.

"It was too close for comfort" said Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney, who was on scene of the car fire when the wrong way driver passed by. "We thought we were going to be working two scenes, a fire and a head on collision".

Fortunately, the Adrian Police Department and the Bates County Sheriff's Office safely stopped the elderly man who mistakenly entered the wrong ramp at the Adrian exit.

Fortunately, the car fire was small in nature, allowing fire department personnel to shorten their time on the scene.

Wintry Conditions Expected this weekend

It's a triple threat weekend! Threat #1 will be the chance for freezing drizzle/light freezing rain which will begin as early as 6AM tomorrow and will initially be patchy before becoming more widespread by mid-morning. Temperatures will move above freezing south of Highway 36 changing freezing drizzle to (liquid) drizzle however, north of Highway 36 temperatures will remain below freezing most of Friday into Friday night which will allow for more ice accumulation.

Threat #2 will be the snow on Saturday. Morning freezing drizzle on Saturday will change over to snow and light snow accumulation will occur from late morning into Saturday evening. The greatest accumulation will be 1.0" - 1.5" right across the middle of the forecast area including the KC Metro.

Threat #3 will be the brutal wind chills overnight Saturday night into Sunday. The coldest wind chills will be felt late Saturday night into Sunday morning where wind chills will drop to 20 to 30 degrees below zero across northern Missouri and between 10 to 20 degrees below zero elsewhere across the area.

The highest the wind chills will get on Sunday will range from 5 above to 5 below zero in the afternoon with high temperatures in the upper single digits to mid teens. Please be careful out there this weekend!
