Good fences really do make good neighbors?

Missouri’s Complex Fence Laws to be Explained March 7 at Osceola

A program to discuss Missouri’s Complicated Fence Law will be held on Tuesday evening, March 7th, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the First Baptist Church, 505 W. Walnut, Osceola. There is a $15 charge for this meeting and that covers the program and materials. Pre-registration is recommended so that there will be materials for all attending. To register for the class, call the St. Clair Extension office at 417-646-2419.

“Missouri continues to have a very complicated fence law, in large part due to the fact that two separate laws cover the state depending on the county that your land is in” according to Joe Koenen, Agricultural Business Specialist with University of Missouri Extension who will be presenting the program that night. “If you own land you really need to know the law and how it impacts you whether you own livestock or not.” “Furthermore, in 2016 a portion of the law was changed to address livestock liability that affects livestock and non-livestock owners, alike” said Joe.

Other problems are that both laws are subject to interpretation and can be a little different, depending on the county you are in. A comparison of both laws will be given at this program. Joe has been presenting programs on the fence law for over 25 years throughout the state, including via Adobe Connect and interactive TV. Landowners need to be aware of what the law is in their county and this meeting will help them better understand their rights and responsibilities.

This program will be done via interactive TV so attendees can see the presentation and also ask questions of the presenter. It allows the presenter (Joe) to talk to several folks in a wide area without traveling to each location.

Contact Joe Koenen at koenenj@missouri.edu if you have any questions.

Garden City Police Department Awarded Funds Through Law Enforcement Block Grant

Photo #1
The Garden City Police Department was recently awarded $1,400 through the Law Enforcement Block Grant (LEBG) Program to purchase traffic safety vests, hi-visibility rain coats and first responder trauma kits.

The LEBG is a competitive process where agencies across the nation compete for federal funds.

You gotta love a good mystery...

Since Gray's Cafe made the move to Adrian, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding their former location on the Butler strip... mostly rumors, until now anyway. Just yesterday this 'Breakfast' graphic appeared in a window prompting an investigation by our top Mid America Live reporter, but 'mums the word' from those working inside. It is thought the owners are from Vernon County and we've made several attempts to gain information about what is coming. A safe assumption is....they'll be serving breakfast for sure!

Sometimes you just gotta wait and see, right?

From the City of Drexel

As most of you know our Drexel Swimming Pool was built back in 1971, on donations and fundraisers, like dances, so we are hoping we might be able to bring back this tradition and be able to raise money need to do some much needed work at our pool so we can open in May. At the present time we do not have a Drexel Pool Board to plan any fundraisers so Peggy Moles and myself have taken it upon ourselves to try to do some, so that the pool will be able to be open for the summer, we hate to see it close. So we are planning a Pool Fundraiser for March 17, 2017, St. Patrick’s Day! We are planning a Dinner and Dance along with a silent auction. We received sponsorship for the Band Silver Bullet (the band that comes for the pumpkin festival).

We will serve dinner from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and enjoy the band from 8:30 pm – 11:30 pm, if you would like to help the cost of food and or donate any items for the silent auction.

Please let Peggy or I know at the Drexel City Hal. If you or anyone you know might be interested in serving on the Drexel Pool Board again please give us a call at the Drexel City Hall (816)-619-2323. Any help that you can give us will most graciously be appreciated.

SEE YOU MARCH 17 ST. PATRICK'S DAY
FOR AN EVENING OF FUN

Clinton Police Department warns of phone scam

The Clinton Police Department has received another report of a potential phone scam and wants area residents to be aware. The potential victim was called from a number that had been masked to make the number appear to be local, probably to increase the odds of the victim answering a call from an unknown number in the first place and making a return call or reverse tracking of the number impossible.

The caller had a thick foreign accent, identified themselves as a representative of the victim's credit card company, and was able to provide the potential victim with the first four numbers of the victim's credit card. Then the victim was asked to provide the rest of the card's numbers.

The potential victim did the correct thing at that point and simply disconnected the call without providing any more information and thus did not suffer any loss. The first several digits of a credit card are known as IINs (Issuer Identification Numbers) and are not unique to individual credit accounts, thus those numbers could be provided by a scammer in an attempt to trick a victim into believing the caller is an actual company representative. So, as a reminder, never provide personal information on the telephone after receiving a call, even from a source that might identify itself as a company you do business with.

A legitimate business will be able to provide you with a call back number and other means so that you can verify their credibility. When in doubt, simply hang
