Sean D. Gilbert
Sean D. Gilbert, 22, Garden City, Missouri died March 19, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Paula and Mike Beruan, Garden City, Missouri; his father, Dean Gilbert, Cameron, Missouri; a brother, Daniel Gilbert, Independence, Missouri; maternal grandmother, Mary Duvall, Independence, Missouri; paternal grandfather, Lester Gilbert, Elmwood, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2017 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to The Miracle League of Independence.








Obituary - Ross Edward Lawrence, Sr.

Ross Edward Lawrence, Sr.
Ross Edward Lawrence, Sr., 83, died peacefully at his home on March 18, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith A. Lawrence, his children Ross E. Lawrence, Jr, Jenene Howland (Brad), Kathy Bascom, Colleen Thomas (Rusty), Angela Lawrence, 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, brother Robert Lawrence (Irene), Audrey Gilliam (Jim), many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many beloved animals and pets.

Born in Denton, Kansas on April 13, 1933, the son of Grace D. and Charles R. Lawrence, he was raised in Kansas City and Detroit. In 1956, he and Judy moved to Battle Creek, Michigan and later to Lenexa, Kansas. His last 33 years were spent on his beloved farm in Milo, Missouri.

Ross spent four years in service to the United States Air Force, followed by 29 years at AT&T, where he started at an entry level position and through hard work, dedication and a desire to provide for his family became a computer engineer. Even though he delayed finishing high school until completing his military service, he made sure that his children had the opportunity to pursue college degrees, putting his dreams on hold until his children grew into adults.

In addition to his family, Ross’s true passion was his farm and caring for his animals. He was never as happy as he was when he was feeding animals and walking his property. He taught many to love and respect the outdoors. In his youth, he enjoyed playing hockey, softball, golf and basketball. In his later years he enjoyed painting the landscapes that he loved to view. Ross was longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Nevada, Missouri.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, his sister Mary, and daughter-in law Debbie.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 22nd, 10 am at First Presbyterian Church, 500 N. Olive St., Nevada, Missouri, 64772. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to First Presbyterian Church Youth Mission Fund or Community Outreach, 229 N Cedar, Nevada, MO 64772-2309






House Fire Victim Identified in Cass County

CASS CO –Detectives with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office along with the Central Cass Fire Protection District and Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office are investigating a fatal fire reported around 1:21 a.m. Friday morning in rural Pleasant Hill.

Deputies arrived on scene in the 20000 block of E. 203rd Street shortly after an occupant of the residence reported the fire.Deputies found a single story residence engulfed in smoke.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as Norman R. Caywood, 76 of Pleasant Hill. Fire personnel located Mr. Caywood inside the residence. 

Fire Investigators with the Central Cass Fire Protection District and Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine the cause of the fire, however it does not appear to be suspicious
.

Kathryn Sue Brink, age 64 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, March 17, 2017 at her home in Butler. She was born June 2, 1952 to Gilbert Francis and Betty Louise Martin Mullies in Butler.

Kathy is survived by her two sons, Tyler Ragan of Butler, Missouri and PJ Ragan and wife Katie of Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Ky Brink of Butler, Missouri; lifetime companion Michael Ragan of Butler, Missouri; one brother, David Mullies of Waynesville, Missouri; special brother, Todd Black of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren, Mikinzie Ward, Macy Ragan, Ella Ragan, Brody Ragan and Max Ragan; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ronnie Mullies; and one sister, Janice Wheeler.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Robert F. Wolf To Retire April 1, 2017

Colonel Sandra K. Karsten, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective April 1, 2017:

Captain Robert F. Wolf, director of the Governor’s Security Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, is retiring after over 37 1/2 years of dedicated service.
 
Captain Wolf was appointed to the Patrol on July 9, 1979, as a member of the 50th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 10, Franklin County. On August 1, 1990, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 3, St. Louis County. Wolf was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Zone 10, Franklin County, on July 1, 1994. He was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop C Headquarters, now Weldon Spring, MO, on July 1, 2000. Wolf served as a member and then supervisor of the Troop C SWAT team for over 25 years of his career. He has the distinction of being an original member of the team, which formed in 1985. On September 1, 2014, Wolf was promoted to captain and designated director of the Governor’s Security Division. In that capacity, he coordinated transportation, security, and protection of Missouri’s governor and his immediate family, as well as visiting dignitaries.

Capt. Wolf was born in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Jennings Senior High, Jennings, MO. Prior to joining the Patrol, Wolf served as a Jennings, MO, police officer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. On June 14, 1996, he graduated with the 185th FBI National Academy Class in Quantico, VA. Capt. Wolf and his wife, Mary Lou, share three children and six grandchildren. They are looking forward to welcoming their seventh grandchild soon. They will retire in Washington, MO.






Nevada Police Take Subject Into Custody After Shots Fired Incident

On March 18th, 2017 Nevada Police were dispatched to 600 block of West Walnut in regards to a subject threatening suicide. Law enforcement were further advised that the individual in question had multiple firearms in his possession.

Officers arrived in the area, and observed the subject inside the home with what looked to be a semi-automatic scoped rifle in his possession. Officers also seen the subject was wearing a bullet resistant vest.

Officers attempted to establish a line of communication with the subject during the initial contact. During this time, the subject was refusing to exit the residence and fired a shot from the rifle in an unknown direction.

Law enforcement began contacting nearby residents attempting to evacuate residents away from the area. During the incident several other shots were fired from inside the home by the suspect.

After an extended amount of time the subject came out of the residence, unarmed and officers were able to take the subject into custody without further incident.

The subject was transported to NRMC for evaluation and later transferred to the Vernon County Jail for holding.

Nevada Police Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and removed two firearms from the residence, one semiautomatic handgun and one semiautomatic scoped rifle. A large amount of ammunition was also recovered at the scene.


The suspect has been identified as Nevada resident, 24 year old, Darris K. Meyers. He has been charged with the following:


Assault in the first degree, Felony A
Armed Criminal Action, Felony, Unclassified
Unlawful use of a weapon, Felony, B
Assault in the second degree, Felony, D
Unlawful use of weapon, Felony E
A bond was set at $500,000 cash only.

Charmaine Ketron, age 74 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born August 16, 1942 to Arthur and Clara Mae Gench Cumpton.

Charmaine is survived by one son, Steve Ketron and wife Leisa of Butler, Missouri; one daughter, Stacy Geritz and husband Bo of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Karen Cooper of Butler, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cody Kyser, Taylor and Chelsey Ketron and Skyla and Brody Geritz; and one great-granddaughter, Kaia Kyser. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bob in December 22, 2003.
