Obituary - Harlan Eagleson

Harlan Eagleson, age 58 passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at Research Medical, Kansas City, Missouri. Condolences and fond memories may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com

Funeral service will be on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2pm with visitation from 12-2pm at the Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden, Missouri. Interment will follow at New Liberty Cemetery, Holden, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Harlan Eagleson Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Harlan was the son of James and Lois (Hancock) Eagleson. Harlan worked many jobs through the years; Perfecto Trailer Mfg., Stahls Manufacturing, Allied Signal for 19 years and

Harley Davidson for 20 years. From 1980-present he was a part of the International Association Machinist Union, he was instrumental in founding the Employee's Rider Association for the Kansas City Harley Davidson Plant. His passion was working for Johnson County Fire Protection District #2 beginning in 1980, he served as volunteer and was the current Assistant Chief.

Harlan married his life long friend Karen Bilyeu on November 20, 1981.

Harlan is survived by Karen; his son Christopher and Kristin Eagleson, daughter Karell (Eagleson) Johnson and was Papa to Nevaeh, Maegan, Lauren, and Raelyn, his mother Lois Hancock Eagleson, three brothers, Bob and Jan of Holden, Martin and Becky Eagleson of Virginia and Harold Eagleson and GJ Courtney of Florida and numerous other relatives.

Harlan was preceded in death by his father James Eagleson, inlaws Jerry and Barbra Bilyeu, maternal grandparents Eugene and Arlene Hancock, paternal grandparents, Robert and Lucielle Eagleson and grandson, Raylan Eagleson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.


Update Obituary - Ernest Duane McConville

Ernest Duane McConville, 45, of Clinton, Missouri passed away early Tuesday morning, November 12, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. just prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Odessa Cemetery, Odessa, MO. 

A memorial fund has been established to help with funeral expenses. Contributions may be left in care of the Bradley and Hadley Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.bradleyhadley.com.

Obituary - Betty June (Davis) Steiner

The memorial service for Betty will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City, Missouri.

The minister officiating at the service will be Pastor Jim Knight and Pastor Larry Sorrells.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

There will be a private family inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri.

The family suggests any MEMORIAL donations be given to Pleasant Gap Christian Church or Myers Cemetery.

Betty June (Davis) Steiner, 97, of Appleton City Missouri passed peacefully on November 15, 2019 at Appleton City Manor, Appleton City, Missouri. She was born June 1, 1922 to Peyton Reeves and Stella Blake (Raybourn) Davis in rural Taberville, Missouri, the youngest of eight siblings.

Betty attended the one-room Cumpton School and graduated from Appleton City High School in 1939. She lived her faith as an involved member of the community as a 4-H Community Leader Pleasant Gap Extension Club and PTA offices. Her commitment to the Pleasant Gap Christian Church was demonstrated by her many years as a Sunday School teacher, song Leader, and Ladies Aid member and officer. Service to others was exhibited through her “food ministry”, always providing a meal for funeral dinners or taking food to friends and neighbors.

Betty and Roy knew each other from childhood but started a new chapter in their lives when they were asked to sing in a community quartet. Their first date was a wiener roast in 1938. They were married November 28, 1941 and celebrated 72 years together.

Betty’s great love for her family resulted in a home that was warm and welcoming not only to her children and husband, but extended to family and friends alike. She was famous for her Sunday dinners, always served with a double portion of love.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her parents, and siblings: Tom and Reeves Davis, Alice Beard, Helen Doerflinger, Eunice Davis, Mary Jane Beard and Vivian Majors.

Survivors include Betty’s four daughters, Marlise Swartz of Bangor, Maine, Sheryl Morriss and husband Jack of Cumming, Georgia, Karla Kelly and husband Larry of Appleton City, Missouri, and Lori Johnson and husband Mark of Kansas City, Missouri; and eight grandchildren: Matt (Monique) and Kara Swartz of Bangor, Maine, Anna (Allan) Brantley, and Megan (Aaron) Horsley of Alpharaetta, Georgia, Kristopher (Vanessa) and Brett Kelly of Springfield, Missouri, Brielle Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri and Hunter Johnson of Madison, Minnesota. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Olivia and Chase Swartz, Peyton and Maris Brantley, Rylan and Bailyn Horsley, and Ethan and Loren Kelly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Obituary - James Alvin “Jim” McIntire

The funeral service for Jim will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City, Missouri.

Minister is Pastor Joel Meyer will officiate at the service.

Visitation will preceded the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall (Zion Lutheran School basement across from the church) in Prairie City, Missouri.

Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.

The family suggests any memorial donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
James Alvin “Jim” McIntire was born September 12, 1938 in Roscoe, Missouri, the son of Ad and May (DeWitt) McIntire. Jim departed this life November 15, 2019 at 81 years of age with his family by his side.

Jim attended Osceola High School leaving before graduation to work and help his family make ends meet. He spent several years working as a farm hand for Darrell and Florene French. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict in an artillery division. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he was introduced to Yvonne Rapp on a blind date in August 1963 by a mutual friend. They were married June 13, 1964 and to this union two sons were born.

Shortly after their marriage, Jim and Yvonne moved to Buckner, Missouri where he took a job with Thomas J. Lipton Company (Unilever) located in Independence. Jim worked very hard putting in many hours of overtime as he was employed as a warehouser for 29 years.

Jim loved the hours spent on the banks of the Osage catching bass and catfish. He took meticulous care of his cars, keeping them polished and clean. He was a loving man, caring for his family especially enjoying time spent with his granddaughters. He was modest and very frugal, and a man of few words. When he did speak it was pure gold. Jim read his Bible every day and was much loved and respected by all of his family.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents; his brothers, Speck, Charlie and Sonny McIntire; his sisters, Darlene Hearting Schweer, Janie Reasoner, Pearl and two infants. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Yvonne; his two sons, Jeff and Matt McIntire; two granddaughters, Sydney and Lauren McIntire; one great-grandson, Riley Madison; and two sisters, Dessie Rice and Zella Jolliffe.

Jim will be sadly missed by his family and friends

House fire in Horton Missouri


Compton Junction Fire Department along with Walker Rural Fire District and Nevada Fire Department responded to a reported structure just before noon Friday in Horton. We arrived to find a well involved two-story house. 

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to save the house. One resident who was home at the time of the fire was not injured. 

Thank you to Nevada Fire Department and Walker Rural Fire Department for the help. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Obituary - Deborah Kay Cornell

Deborah Kay Cornell, 62, Nevada, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Deb was born on August 31, 1957 in Mitchell, SD, to Wilfred A. and Dolores Marie (Koch) Wermers. On October 7, 1977 she married Peter W. Cornell in Mt. Vernon, SD, and he survives of the home

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 with visitation from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Those who wish may donate in Deborah’s name to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.


LaCygne Kansas man killed in Linn County Crash

On 11/14/19 around 6:30pm the Kansas State Highway Patrol in Linn County along with Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident at the intersection of K-152 and CR 1095 around 2 miles west of LaCygne, Kansas.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2003 Cadillac CTS driven by 43 year old Shawn A. Teagarden of LaCygne, Kansas failed to stop at the intersection and struck a embankment.

Mr. Teagarden was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and he was taken to Frontier Forensics.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Saker Tow of Ft. Scott, Kansas.
