Hotter weather next week

Warm and humid w/ isolated to scattered (15%-45%) showers and a few storms Mon. & Tue. Hotter for mid to late in the week w/ more isolated (15%-25%) shower and thunderstorm chances. Heat indices will begin to climb into the mid to upper 90s later this week.

Butler Aquatic Center starting our swim lessons and aerobic swimming

Hey everyone, starting this week the Butler Aquatic Center will be starting our swim lessons and aerobic swimming!

Water aerobics will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11, and cost $3 for admissions.

Obituary - Edward "Bullfrog" William Theel, Sr.

Edward "Bullfrog" William Theel Jr., age 53, formerly of La Cygne, Kansas passed away at Research Medical Center, Monday, May 31, 2021. Ed was born March 16, 1968 the son of Max and Susie Walker Theel, Sr at Kansas City, Kansas.

Ed grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Washington High School in 1986. "Bullfrog" as everyone knew him was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawks basketball, he was a huge Ozzy Osbourne fan, loved playing softball in his younger days, hitting golf balls with his nephew and was also known for being the life of the party.

He is survived by his parents, a daughter, Nicole Theel (Jacob) of Clinton, Missouri, a son, Edward Theel Jr. of Deepwater, Missouri, their mother, Leah Theel, two sisters, Elizabeth Theel-Mark (Adrian), Tammy Metzgar (Kevin), three brothers, Vincent Theel (Jackie), Max Theel Jr. (June), Ed Teare (Lori), two grandchildren, Grayson and Jayda, and lots of aunts, uncles and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family suggests contributions to Edward Theel Sr. memorial fund and may be sent to Schneider Funeral Home P.O. Box 304 La Cygne, Kansas 66404. Online condolences may be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com


Obituary - Billy Wayne Heyer




Billy Wayne Heyer, age 41 of Mapleton, Kansas passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Billy was born the son of Orville Wayne Heyer and Beverly Jean Parr on July 27, 1979 in Warrensburg, Missouri. 

Billy enjoyed ranch rodeos, horses, cattle, swimming, fishing, barbeques, bonfires and hanging out with friends and family. Billy was preceded in death by his father. 

He is survived by his mother, wife, Tracy Disney, sons, Kiel, Brannan (Shelby), Lee Heyer, Logan Heyer, Daniel Mauk and Zach Daniels, siblings, Steve Heyer, Becky Taylor, Greg Hildebrand, Zack Heyer and Elizabeth Heyer, seven grandchildren, Remi, Skarlet, Roman, Josie, Daxton, Frayah and Melina.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, June 11, 2021 at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will be at the Mapleton Cemetery.

Harrisonville teen seriously injured in vehicle and train collision in Cass County

On June 4th around 3:35 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a car accident involving a train on CR 235th and Mopac Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2003 Buick driven by a 16 year old Harrisonville female failed to stop at the train tracks and was struck by a Missouri and Northern Arkansas Locomotive. There was no signal devices at this intersection.

The female juvenile sustained serious injuries and she was transported by air ambulance to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for treatment.

One arrested in Cedar County

An Investigation conducted by the Cedar County Sheriffs Office has lead to the arrest of Irvin John Rill, 64 from Sedalia Mo. Rill has been charged in Cedar County with felony burglary, stealing and property damage in connection with the burglary and theft that was reported at Amvets post 116 on 5/22/21. Rill is currently in Pettis Co jail.

Cedar County investigating Officers were able to obtain enough information / evidence to obtain a search warrant for Rills residence in Pettis County (Sedalia). Detective Lt. Kevin Lowe and Pettis County Sheriffs Deputies served the warrant on 6/4/21. Numerous evidence items were recovered in the search.

Also involved in the investigation were Sheriff McCrary, Chief Deputy Jason Johnson, Deputy Tabitha Johnson, Sgt. Clay Jeffries and Deputy Colton Sawyer.

Special thanks to the Pettis County Sheriffs Office for their time and effort in obtaining and serving the search warrant.

It should be remembered that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.


Charges filed in rural Pleasanton Kansas Fatal Shooting

Monday, May 31, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office applied for and received an arrest warrant for Edward W. Theel for the attempted murder and aggravated battery of a Linn County citizen.

At 6:04 p.m. Sunday, May 30, Linn County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for a man shot in the head in the area of E. 600 Road in rural Pleasanton.

Upon arrival a 53-year-old white male was found critically wounded but still conscious at the residence. Theel (year of birth 1997) was also located on the property and was taken into custody for questioning.

The incapacitated male was taken from the property by American Medical Response of Linn County. The condition of the male was considered serious, and he was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in the Kansas City area. At that time deputies applied for the warrant, which was signed by Judge Terri Johnson with a bond set at $1,000,000.

At approximately 8 p.m. Monday, May 31, the male was pronounced deceased by medical professionals. Based on the passing of the victim, this office expects to have charges on file Tuesday afternoon, June 1, for murder in the first degree.

The case is currently under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information related to this crime should report that information to law enforcement immediately. The charges are allegations of criminal conduct only. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Rich Hill teen injured in two vehicle accident

On Friday June 4th around 6:30 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Rich Hill police responded to a two vehicle accident on 8th Street just north of Pine Street in the city limits of Rich Hill.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Kawasaki Motorcycle driven by a 15 year old male juvenile was struck by a vehicle causing the teen to be thrown off the motorcycle.

The vehicle failed to yield and stay at the accident scene. The teen refused medical treatment stating he would seek it at a later time.
