Dear Adrian R-III Families,

September 10, 2021
Dear Adrian R-III Families,

The District has a new positive case of COVID-19. As soon as the individual and the District were aware of the situation, the individual self-isolated and has not returned to school.

Though we know you will have many questions and concerns, in order to protect the privacy of the individual involved, the District is incredibly limited as to the information it can share with you; however, if you’d like to ask specific questions regarding any next steps you may need to take, please contact the Bates County Health Department. We continue to thank our community for your support and patience during these difficult times. We remain committed to ensuring staff, students, and the community are safe and informed.

Sincerely
Don Lile
Adrian RIII School Superintendent

Way to go Megan!

Belton High School senior Megan Myers-Weary was recently selected as a member of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City for the second year in a row. The symphony is made up of 9-12th grade students.

Myers-Weary plays the clarinet, and only four clarinetists are selected each year from the greater Kansas City area. What an accomplishment!

The student symphony will be able to perform in Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center this spring, as well as perform in other events across the metro.

Homecoming parade TODAY in Butler starting at 2pm

McGennis Youth Center Barbecue and Auction Set for Sunday, September 26th

After a year’s absence, the McGennis Youth Center Barbecue and Auction are back. Come have some outdoor fun with us on Sunday, September 26.

In conjunction with the barbecue and auction, September 26th will also be the Fifth Annual Car and Truck Show. Car show registration is 12 to 1 p.m. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 30 entries. Trophies will be awarded to the Top Ten plus Best of Show. For more information on the car show contact Jared Rankin 417-448-4903 or rankinfarms@hotmail.com.

Children’s games will start at 12:30 p.m. with the classic country picnic contests.

Horse and wagon rides around the Center will be given during the afternoon with Harry Byram from Sheldon bringing the team and wagon

During the afternoon, try to take a minute and look into the recently remodeled cabins. If you have any questions about the cabins or any aspect of the Center, just ask one of the board members.

Attention will turn to the serving line at 1 p.m. The meal will again be catered by Food Fair of Rich Hill. There will be barbecued beef, pork and chicken with baked beans, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, bread and iced tea and lemonade. Everyone who wishes to lend a hand to the Center is invited to bring along a cake for the dessert table. Any extra cakes will be auctioned off.

About 1:45 p.m. a unique variety of crafts and collectible items will go on the auction block, headed up this year by Auctioneers Charlie Johnson and Marvin Swickhamer. The craft auction has become known for its quality items ranging from antiques to delicious baked goods.

A popular part of the auction will again be featured this year. The Mad Hatter features ten McGennis Youth Center caps donated by Bell Photography. These caps, each numbered, will be auctioned off. At the end of the auction one of these numbers will be drawn. That winning number will win a Marlin 243 bolt-action rifle, model X57 with a black synthetic stock, donated by Bell Farms.

In the same vein, Schlyer Designs has donated triple circles of yellow, white and rose gold with diamonds (approximately 1 ct.) necklace valued at $1200. Ten numbered bags will be auctioned off, and the winning number drawn will win the necklace. The bags will each contain a gift certificate to Schlyer Designs ranging in value from $10 to $100.

For more information about the auction or to donate an item call Marc or Alison Bell at 660-832-4196. The generosity of those who donate and those who bid has made the auction a major revenue source for the Youth Center.

Admission to the barbecue is $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for children (ages 6-12). Tickets are for the meal and are not required for the auction.

From Rich Hill, the McGennis Youth Center is located five miles west on A Highway and four miles south on WW Highway.

State Farm student athlete of the week

We are excited to announce this week’s selection as State Farm student athlete of the week Annalee Gardner. Annalee is a Junior outside hitter on the Lady Bears Volleyball team. She is also a co-captain of the team this year. Annalee was nominated by her Coach Kassidy Hannah.

Coach Hannah stated “Annalee is a consistent player who leads our team with confidence. She leads our team in kills and has the highest serve receive rating with 100% last night in the win against Warsaw. Annalee has stepped up when her friend and co-captain has been forced to be absent.

The team has had a difficult start to the season, but Annalee has faced adversity with grace and composure and it’s an honor to have her leading our team.” When we asked Annalee to describe what it takes to become an elite athlete she stated “it’s those that hustle and give 100% at all times that succeed, and those athletes that continue to encourage and lead their team.” We asked Annalee what her plans were after high school and she stated “my goal is to go to a division one college to pole vault.” We want to congratulate Annalee and all the lady bears on their hard fought win against Warsaw last night in a tough 5 set match. This week is Butler’s Homecoming week! The team will take on Archie on Tuesday. Good luck Lady Bears!

Some exciting news for Osage Valley Electric Cooperative Customers!!

We are excited to share that we have installed our first fiber hut at our Freeman substation!

Fiber huts are an important part of the FTTH infrastructure, housing the equipment that lights the fiber which goes out to the homes and businesses served by the substation, thus preparing the way to eventually distribute the fiber.
