Obituary - Wilma Marcine Weedin
Marcine lived in a small home in New Home Township with her parents Sam and Goldie (Robertson) Weedin, and elder brother Marion Weedin for several years, where her father farmed and ran his own sawmill.
The family then moved to Sprague in Howard Township to the family farm, settled by her grandparents Alphonso (A.F.) and Mary Weedin in 1879.
Marcine attended the one room Sprague School through the Eighth grade, then finished her High School years in Rich Hill, graduating in 1956. Following graduation, she was one of the many young women placed for employment in Kansas City by Business Teacher Opal Heatherly, where she was employed in office work for several years.
An invitation to a church activity by a co-worker, led Marcine to Edward Lee Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri. The two were united in marriage on October 7, 1963 and to this union 3 ornery sons were born, each 3 years apart. During this time, they purchased a home in Overland Park, KS., where they lived until the passing of her mother in 1974. Wanting to raise their family away from the city, Marcine and Ed made one more move to her family home on the Weedin farm where she lived through the remainder of her life.
Besides her ever tiring endeavor to raise 3 mischievous boys, Marcine and Ed raised chickens and sold many eggs, as well as gardening, and keeping a few cows around. Baby calves and new kittens would always put a smile across her face, and she worried about their well-being. Mom enjoyed selling eggs to her neighbors and cherished her visits with them at the kitchen table. Cooking for the family gave her much joy. Fried chicken, stew, pork cutlets and chops in potatoes were remembered well by the family as well as hay and farm help.
While Marcine never had a daughter, she was blessed with five granddaughters and two grandsons that she deeply loved. She prayed for them often and gave her rip-the-tape off loving advice out of her deep sense of concern for them (this same well-intended advice was still given to her sons as needed).
Marcine and Ed enjoyed any opportunity to eat out, especially with friends and family or church potluck. Any area restaurant knew them by name “and yes, cream and sugar please!” They were active in the Butler Chapter of the Disabled Veterans Association, the American Legion, and visited the Kern Center often as well. History of the area, especially Sprague and Foster, were popular topics as well as family genealogy.
Above all other interests (even more than grand and great-grandchildren) was her deep love for the Lord. Volumes of sermon outlines and Bible Study notes were cherished from a life of learning God’s Word. Marcine was raised attending Sprague Christian Church through her childhood years. During her time in the city, she and Ed were charter members in the construction and completion of the Johnson County Christian Church in Overland Park, KS.
Upon moving home to Rich Hill in 1974, they committed their fellowship and devotion to the Foster Christian Church, where she worshipped in Christ faithfully until her passing. Ladies Salad Suppers and Revivals were a must, as well as her love of the food and fellowship of the Rich Hill Christian Church Wednesday Night Bible Studies. As her health declined, church attendance became more difficult. She greatly missed seeing her many friends and fellow Christians when she was unable to attend. In her final words, Marcine expressed not only her love for her family, but her wish for their eternal hope in the Lord.
Marcine is preceded in death by her husband Edward Taylor, infant grandson Derek Taylor, parents Sam and Goldie Weedin, brother Marion Weedin and wife Wanda.
She is survived by her sons Lee Edward, David Allen, Kenneth Ray and wife Teresa Taylor, all of Rich Hill, MO. Grandchildren; Sara Smith (Lyndell) of Liberal, MO. ;Tiffany Taylor (Amanda) of Lebanon, MO. ; Kristen Arndt (Gus) of Adrian, MO. ; Kendra Ephland (Nathan) of Rich Hill, MO. ; Allison Cumpton (Clayton) of Foster, MO. ; Grant Taylor of Lake Ozark, MO. ; Ryan Taylor of Deepwater, MO. Four great-grandchildren; Lane Benedick and Freya Arndt of Adrian, MO. ; Drew and Kendall Ephland of Rich Hill, MO.
Marcine held dear the staff of the Nevada Dialysis Clinic for their care and support, as well as her wonderful in-home caregivers and transportation: Jolene Barkman, Jackie Calvert, Lana Eckart, Ruth Fletcher, Barbara Koehn, and Leta Singleterry. Our family is forever grateful for the love, caring, and companionship they have given her. Also, to her daughter-in-law of 33 years Teresa for her tireless efforts and availability in all areas of her care through the years.
Funeral service will be 10 am Wednesday, April 25, 2023 at the Rich Hill Christian Church. Burial in the Belton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Heuser Funeral Home.

Obituary - Kimberly R. Garrett
Kim grew up in Kansas City and in July of 1986 was united in marriage to Geary Shaddox.
She worked as a paralegal for the Maneke Law Group in Kansas City for many years. In 2010 they moved to Warsaw, Missouri.
Kim is preceded in death by her father, Daniel Murphy, her husband Geary Shaddox, a sister Deena Pearson and twin sisters that passed at birth; Michelle and Shelly.
She is survived by her children; Cassandra Shaddox, of Warsaw, Jesse Shaddox, and his wife Christina Shaddox, of Kansas City, Destiny Pearson, of Warsaw and Sky Pearson, of Kansas City, her mother, Sue Garrett, seven grandchildren; Gabriel Shaddox, Charity Shaddox, Shekinah Shaddox, Georgia Shaddox, Theodore Shaddox, Felicity Pearson and Sayla Spooner.
Arrangements for her cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.

George was a registered respiratory therapist and worked at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kansas for forty-seven years. He loved his job. The past three years, he worked the switchboard for Via Christi Hospital. He married the first love of his life, Lucille Page on May 28, 1977.
George and Lucille had one son, Aaron Freeze. Lucille passed away on February 19, 2006 George later married the second love of his life, Janice Brunner on August 3, 2010, and gained 5 step-children and 15 grandchildren.
He enjoyed playing poker, fishing and watching old TV shows.
He is survived by his wife Janice, son Aaron Freeze, of Ft. Scott, Kansas, 5 step-children and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Ann) Freeze of Lehi, Utah, Randy (Teresa) Freeze of Liberal, Missouri and sisters, Carol (Mark) Brizendine of Norborne, Missouri, LuAnne (Paul) Crocker of Liberal, Missouri and Linda (Tom) McKay also of Liberal, Missouri, brothers-in-law Larry Page and David Page of Fort Scott, Kansas and sisters-in-law Chris Brown, and Audrey Cole both of Ft. Scott, Kansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was also survived by his beloved cat, Maggie, who was his constant companion. He wasn’t really a cat person, but loved Maggie. George was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, parents and grandparents. George will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Following cremation, Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 28th at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private burial will take place at a later date in the Hiattville Cemetery.

Kansas fugitive arrested in Cedar County
Officers complete a probable cause statement for Fugitive from Justice. Officers received a Cedar County Warrant, charging him with Fugitive from Justice with a $150,000.00 cash bond.
He was transferred to the Cedar County Jail pending bond and court appearances.

Bates County Elks Scholarship awarded to three area students
The Bates County Elks Lodge awarded 3 scholarships for $500 per year for up to four years to the following three students from Bates County.
The recipient's are Lexie Ward (Ballard High School), MaKayla Mallett (Butler High School), and Annalee Gardner (Butler High School).
The 2023 Bates County Elks Most Valuable student scholarship is awarded every year to local high school students. The Elks National Foundation awards $2.44 million dollars in college scholarships to a total of 500 high school seniors nationwide. Receiving one of these scholarships makes them eligible to potentially receive a bigger scholarship in the future ranging up to $20,000 a year.
If you have a child in the area looking to get a college scholarship please make sure they sign up for this one. Applications will start online in August of 2023.

Two Butler Bears Varsity Pitchers Rally Together In Shutout Victory Against El Dorado Springs
The Butler Bears Varsity baseball team defeated El Dorado Springs 5-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jake Chandler struck out number #11 to win the game.
The Bears got on the board in the second inning, when Brandon Hammett was struck by a pitch, scoring one run. A bright spot for El Dorado was a single by Ewert in the first inning.
Maddox Fennewald got the start for the Bears. The pitcher allowed four hits and zero runs over six and a third innings, striking out eleven. Burley went one inning, allowing three runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one.
K Burley and Ewert entered the game out of the bullpen, throwing five innings and one inning respectively.
The Bears collected seven hits on the day. Chandler and Bryson Kash each collected multiple hits for the Bears.
