McCoy awarded outstanding senior award for Welding Technology from the Cass Career Center

Congratulation to Archie R-5 School Senior Michael McCoy for being awarded the Outstanding Senior Award for Welding Technology from the Cass Career Center.

Michael has attended Cass Career Center for two years and is involved in SkillsUSA. Michael’s advice to those considering CCC is, “attendance is the biggest part of Cass Career Center, especially in their hands-on programs because it isn't like traditional class work.

Anytime you miss shop time, you are not able to make that up at a later date. This is great preparation for our careers.

My education at CCC has allowed me to develop skills for the career that I'd like to pursue after high school, and I highly recommend anyone to attend.”

State Farm Student Athlete of the week Butler Senior Josie Johnston

We are very happy to announce this weeks State Farm Student Athlete of the week, senior Josie Johnston from Butler. Josie is a member of the varsity track team. Josie throws javelin, discus, and shot put. Josie was nominated by her head coach, Richard Courter.

Coach Courter said, "Josie holds two school records, discus and javelin. She has broken the javelin record she set as a junior twice already this year. She currently ranks #5 in the state in class 2 discus and is looking to improve upon her 6th place finish at state last year.

Josie has developed into being a very strong leader and positive role model for not just the throwers squad, but the track program in general. She is oftentimes called upon to demonstrate proper throwing techniques for the younger athletes in the program, but she is still very receptive to learning new skills as well." We asked Josie how she believes sports helps her with school and her everyday life. She told us, “I believe determination plays a huge role. You build determination in sports and you're also determined to get your school work to be able to stay eligible to do what you love.

Overall, it builds a lot on your character.” We asked her to state what it takes to be an elite athlete. She replied with, "lots and lots of training. You are constantly working to better yourself and others, especially in the off time. You have to be willing to put the hard work and effort into what you love."

Then we asked Josie what the toughest aspect of sports were. She said, "probably the mental aspect. Many times athletes are put down and face many struggles. It isn't easy to overcome the obstacles you face, and you aren't always supported by others. It can get to be a lot mentally and physically."

Finally, we asked her to share her favorite track memory with us. She told us, "going to state last year." After graduation she plans to attend Rockhurst University to major in Physical Therapy and continue her track career. We wish Josie and the other athletes the best of luck at districts tomorrow!

Public Service Announcement from the city of Drexel

Due to our water tower getting cleaned and inspected today, you may experience some low pressure as we will be on by pass until they are completed.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

*** Update***
Thank you for your patience. We now refilling the water tower but you may still continue to have low pressure until the tower gets full. We will be on a boil advisory until testing can be done and we get the test results back, so probably until Tuesday. We will keep you posted on the test results. Thank you again for your understanding during this time.
Precautions:
Boil water vigorously for 3 minutes prior to use. Use only boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and all other food preparations or consumption. Use of bottled water may be a feasible, though relatively expensive, alternative to boiling tap water when under a boil advisory. Do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker or use any ice made with unboiled water from this system. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled or buy ice. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water. Let water cool sufficiently before drinking
