Obituary - Andrew Michael Corriston

Andrew Corriston was born on September 21, 1994 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Andrew “Andy” Corriston and Donna May Moreland. He is Andy’s only son and the youngest of three children for Donna. His siblings are Creston Wolford and Candi Moreland. Andrew passed away on March 8, 2024 as the result of an automobile accident.

Andrew graduated high school in 2013 and wanted to be a game designer. He soon realized he would rather be a professional gamer. That was his main goal until, on November 28, 2020, he met, not just the love of his life, but his soulmate, Mary Margaret Meyers. 

With Mary came her son, Alexander “Xander” John Meyers, whom Andrew happily accepted as a prelude to none other than Braxton Skyler Richard Corriston. And if this was not enough, Andrew was so overjoyed about the next Corriston to arrive in August.

Andrew’s life priorities were his family first, and then his many friends he and Mary shared.

Andrew is survived by his father, Andy; paternal grandparents, John and Lena Corriston; his mother, Donna, and step-grandmother, Betty Moreland; his brother, Creston, and sister, Candi; uncle Jerold and Aunt Mary Jo Moreland; many cousins who were a special and vital part of his life. Many thanks and much love to all of you for being part of his life.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday March 14th from 1pm-2pm at the First Baptist Church in Rich Hill. 

Former student arrested for making terroristic threats at Warsaw High School

On 03/11/24 at 11 AM, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a potential threat against a faculty member of Warsaw High School. School officials were immediately notified as our investigation began and the school was put on lockdown.

Deputies responded to the reporting person’s residence and gathered information, it was our belief that the threat received was plausible.

Ozzy Lee Davis, 18, a former student of Warsaw High School was taken into custody and placed on a 24 hour hold. A warrant has since been issued for $250,000 for felony terroristic threats. 

Mr. Davis is currently being held in the Benton County Jail.

Obituary - Doris Maxine Basore

Doris Maxine Basore, age 104, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Monday, March 10, 2024. She was born in Bates County, Missouri on January 2, 1920 the daughter of Ray and Verna Chapman Lacy. She graduated from Rich Hill High School in the Class of 1937. Doris was united in marriage to Victor Claude Basore on February 6, 1939. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1986. Before retirement she worked as the site manager for Linn County Nutrition. Doris's faith and family were the two most important things in her life.

She rarely missed her kid's or grandkid's activities, and usually showed up early. She was also preceded in death three sons, Bob, Bill, and Tom Basore, three grandchildren, three brothers, Wilbur, John, and Jim Lacy, and two sisters, Dorothy and Norma Swope. Doris is survived by her children, Gary Basore and wife Mary, Jack Basore and wife Terri, Betty Maschler and husband Steve, and Ronnie Basore and wife Cheryl, nine grandchildren, and numerous grand and great grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, from 10 am to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Obituary - John L. Drago

John L. Drago, age 72, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Missouri. He was born on December 13, 1951, to the late John A. and Helen Dean Drago. John was adopted as a baby alongside his cherished sister, Cyndi. In 2018, he reunited with his birth family, discovering four sisters along with more nephews and nieces.

Growing up in Kansas City, John's passions were diverse, from playing the piano and wood carving to ceramics and welding. A licensed scuba diver and professional ventriloquist, he pursued his interests with enthusiasm. He earned his degree from Washburn University and dedicated himself to enriching lives as an Activities Therapist at the Kansas Neurological Institute and at Larned State Hospital.

On May 21, 1977, John married his beloved wife, Doris Ann Reekie. Though they didn't have children of their own, their love for children was evident. In 2013, they formed a special bond with their neighbor, Casey King, who became like a surrogate daughter to them. In 2021, John and Doris relocated to Warsaw to be closer to Casey, her husband Aaron, and their children.

John had a zest for exploration, traveling extensively to destinations such as Europe, Montana, Hawaii, and Canada. Despite his battle with diabetic neuropathy, his faith remained unwavering, and he found solace in singing hymns. He had a special fondness for Christmas, and each year, he joyfully decorated for the holiday on his birthday.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Grain Valley, officiated by Pastor Wayne Geiger. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office is asking for your assistance in returning this dog to its owner. A male dog was found in the area of School Rd. and 195th St. in rural Raymore today at approximately 4 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff's Office at 816-380-5200.

Update: Kansas City woman killed in Bates County motorcycle crash

On Monday March 11th around 2:45 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Butler Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 133 north of Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 39 year old Jason G. Wilkey of Creston, Iowa was stopped in traffic when he was rear-ended by a 1999 Suzuki Intruder driven by 37 year old Jennifer N. Stanford of Kansas City, Missouri.

Jennifer N. Stanford was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and she was transported to the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 15th fatality accident of the year 2024. Next of kin notified.

One killed in motorcycle accident north of Butler

Today 3/11/2024 just after 3pm I was called to the northbound lane of Interstate 49 near mile marker 133 in Bates County. An accident involving a motorcycle had resulted in the death of one individual.

I will withhold identifying information at this moment pending notification of family.
