Drug arrest after traffic stop in Benton County

A shout out to our drug task force interdiction unit who operates within our county. The interdiction unit is equipped with a K9 and is attached to the MID Missouri Drug Task Force who we have been partnered with since I have been in office. Thank you for another job well done!

On July 12th at approximately 6:58 PM, a traffic stop was conducted near the junction of 52 Highway and Centerline Ave, Cole Camp. The driver, Carlos M. Hernandez 32, of Olathe Kansas, had an active warrant related to narcotics from Platte County Missouri.

While waiting for the confirmation of the warrant, a K9 sniff was conducted resulting in a search of the vehicle where a plethora of narcotics and drug related equipment was discovered. Approximately 41 grams of methamphetamine, 1.2 grams of cocaine, 4 hits of LSD, 7 grams of shrooms and a smorgasbord of mind-altering hallucinogens, 85 pills were counted, and were recovered.

Angela F. Barr 49, also of Olathe Kansas was arrested for being involved as well. This is also one of the cases that I have mentioned in the past about needing an animal shelter. Both suspects were arrested, the vehicle was towed and there was a small dog that had no place to go with the temperature being above 90 degrees. These people are from Kansas with no one to call the get the animal. Fortunately, someone was able to pick it up and keep it safe.

Both suspects were charged with Trafficking Drugs 2nd Degree, a class C Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class D Felony and Unlawful use of Drug Paraphernalia. They are currently being held in the Benton County Jail with $100,000 surety bonds.

Water valve replacement & leak repair in the city of Archie

The City of Archie will be doing a valve replacement on Jackson Avenue between N. Truman and N. Wilson Streets on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. This will require that we shut down the water for the entire town from 9:00 PM to midnight.

We will prepare the site earlier in the day in anticipation of a quick repair and limited down time for the water to be off. This valve replacement is another in our quest to have enough valves in town that will allow isolation of smaller sections of town when a repair does need to be made.

Once this valve is replaced, we are hoping it will isolate the line so we can do a water main repair in the same location on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, which should only affect a few customers on N. Wilson Street and Jackson Avenue, who will be notified individually.

We thank you for your patience as we do these repairs and replacements throughout town. Please contact the City Hall with any questions, 816-293-5601.

Case closed, for now

Back in May, Mid America Live and the News-Shopper ran a story regarding a local family who stated that their now deceased father, Eugene Miller was the victim of a fraudulent sale of his 38 acres in rural Bates county, including a home in Butler, to Homestead Equities, LLC. Prior to his death Miller strongly  contended that he never agreed to sell the property to anyone. Unfortunately he fell ill shortly after the transaction which took place late last year delaying  any legal or investigative action.

Our story helped prompt an investigation by the Department of Health and Senior Services who says the case is now closed and no further action will be taken on their part, citing that Miller is no longer alive to make a statement regarding the matter.

The DHSS representative said at this point the only recourse for the family would be through civil court action.
