Dirt track legend Scott Bloomquist was killed in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee on Friday morning. The Rogersville Review reported the news shortly after 8:30 a.m., indicating that local authorities confirmed that Bloomquist was “involved in a small aircraft crash.”
Bloomquist, a Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, will go down as one of the greatest Dirt Late Model drivers of all-time with a resume that is nearly unmatched.
In addition to his on-track success, Bloomquist had a personality and persona that sparked the emotions of Dirt Late Model fans all over the country.
In recent years, Bloomquist had battled a variety of injuries including a leg injury suffered in a motorcycle crash, prostate cancer, a foot injury suffered prior to the 2023 Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway and shoulder surgery prior to the 2024 season. He was also recently hospitalized following a “bizarre experience” with a horsefly bite.
Despite all of this, Bloomquist remained motivated to get back to victory lane at Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest events.
Bloomquist and his father enjoyed flying vintage airplanes and have a collection that was showcased during the Road to Eldora in 2022.
