On Jan. 18, a St. Clair County deputy took a stealing report from Deborah Hopkins. She reported a check was stolen from her and passed at Wal-Mart in Clinton on Jan. 12. A suspect was named.
Hopkins stated she was informed about the check being taken the previous day and noted it was taken from the middle of the check book so she would not notice it was missing. The check cleared the bank and overdrafted her account.
Hopkins noted this is the fourth or fifth time this has happened. A request for prosecution was made and formal charges are pending.
