Right To Work passes Missouri Senate

To the dismay of some and the glee of others, the Missouri Senate has passed the right to work bill that has been at the center of controversy since the election of Governor Eric Greitens last November.

The final vote was 21 to 12 and it will now go to the House, where it is expected to pass there as well.

Proponents say right to work will draw business to the state and give workers the choice of not to paying into a union. Opponents say it’s an attempt to weaken unions and could lead to lower wages.

The Senate version of the bill includes a provision that would exempt current union contracts until they expire. The House version does not make that provision, but is otherwise identical.
