Arrest made in Sharon Cemetery theft

On March 14, 2017 Deputies spoke to a subject regarding several thefts that had occurred at the Sharon Cemetery in Drexel, MO. The subject stated since the end of 2016 someone has been stealing items from his sister’s grave as well as other graves in the cemetery. On March 11th he had placed a solar light next to his sister’s grave that has since been stolen.

Deputies began to investigate the crime and were able to locate the light at a residence in Amsterdam, MO. The suspect told the Deputies that he had purchased the light from Wal-Mart and then later told them that a friend had given him the solar light which was obviously a lie.

The suspect was transported to the Bates County Jail and was put on a 24 hour investigative hold for receiving stolen property. Charges are pending at this time.

“Anyone who steals from a grave is a low-life dirt bag. The items that have been stolen may not have much monetary value but the point is they were stolen from someone’s grave. A grave of someone’s family member, someone’s loved one. The items were put there for a memorial not for some scumbag to steal. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and the perpetrators should be punished to the full extent of the law” said Sheriff Anderson.
