Mini Law Day at the Bates County Courthouse!

Mini Law Day was held last Friday at the Bates County Courthouse. Cases were disposed of and several persons were sent to the Missouri Department of Corrections.

  • Melissa M Caviness pleaded guilty to 1st Degree Child Molestation and 1st Degree Child Endangerment. Caviness was sentenced to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for count 1 and 7 years on Count 2. Judge Journey retained jurisdiction and ordered Caviness to serve 120 days shock in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Ms. Caviness will register as a sex offender.
  • Zachary L. Ford pleaded guilty to one count of Felony Possession of a controlled substance. Ford was given an SIS, 5 years of supervised Probation and 200 hours of Community Service.
  • Judge Journey suspended the execution of a 4-year sentence for Mr. Sean Tanis. Tanis was also sentenced to serve 10 days shock but was give credit for time already served. Tanis was also ordered to pay a 500.00 fine and serve 200 hours of community service
  • Rob Hill Stipulated to his probation violation and had his earned Compliance Credits cancelled. Mr. Hill will not be granted an early discharge from probation.
  • Johnell Parnell had his SIS Probation revoked by Judge Journey and was given an SES on a 5-year Prison sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
  • Darren E. Lowry stipulated to his probation violation. Judge Journey revoked Lowry’s probation and ordered Lowry to the Missouri Department of Corrections to begin serving his original 7-year sentence.
  • Also stipulating to their Probation Violations were Austin M Shutt and Anna C. Hobbs. Both Hobbs and Shutt had their probation revoked and both were ordered to being serving their original 5-year sentences at MDOC.
