Appleton City garage sales coming soon

During this Sesquicentennial, 150 year founding of Appleton City, a Historical Roadside Sign will be installed at the home site of William Prier the original owner of the entire town's 520 acres. The Dedication ceremony at 315 W 6th Street will start at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2020. This is the highest point in St. Clair County. It is where the historic wishing well foundation is located in the side yard of the First Christian Church Parsonage. You are invited to hear the story of this historic location. The ceremony will be followed at 6:00 p.m. by an Ice Cream Social in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall. The first Sesquicentennial Event will be held 150 years after the day the Railroad crew started laying the tracks through Appleton City on September 10, 1870.  Postmaster Dewey McQinn has just received approval for the cancellation that will be done at the Depot September 10, 2020 from 12:00-2:00. A ceremony will be held at 12:01 p.m. Bring an item to be cancelled during that time. Stamps will be available for sale as well as a picture postcard of the Depot. A Depot postcard with a stamp may be purchased for $1.00.  Out-of-towners may send an item for cancellation and return stamped self-addressed envelope mailed to USPS, 119 W.4th St. ACMO, 64724.  It makes a great souvenir for years to come. Other souvenirs will be available for sale that day.

 

Appleton City Landmarks will serve a Taco Salad Lunch on Thursday September 10, 11:00 to 1:00 at the M.K.T. Depot. The lunch will be carryout only and consist of a large taco salad with topping of your choice, homemade cake and drink for a donation of $7.00.  All funds will be used for upkeep of the Depot and Museum grounds. Join them for the first 150thcelebration of the beginning of the railroad in Appleton City.

 

To avoid losing senior nights in the event of a school closing happening this fall, ACHS is having senior night for football on Friday September 11

Homecoming activities are scheduled for September 18.

 

The A.C. Fall City Wide Garage Sale dates are set for September 18 - 19. Permits are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall through noon on September 16. Permits to set up in the A.C. Park are $25 for the pole shelter, $15 for the stage, $10 for a lawn permit and these prices cover both days. Park permits are also available at City Hall and are sold on a first come, first served basis. Maps will be available at Food Fair, Powell's True Value and Casey's beginning Thursday afternoon. House of Joy Ministry will be at the City Park on Saturday from 3:00-5:00 to pick up donations. If you have questions, please call Dianne Foster at 476-2390.

The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God (Holiness) will be 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12.  All the men of the community are invited to join them for a time of great food and fellowship.  Cole Heiserman will have a short devotional.  

 

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, September 13 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.  Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up.  A free will donation will be greatly appreciated.

 

West Central Missouri Community Action Agency is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross on September 17 from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. at their office at 106. W. Fourth Street, Appleton City.   Please call 800-Red-Cross to schedule an appointment or go online at www.redcrossblood.org.  Enter WCMCAA to bring up the drive.  Walk-ins are accepted, but appointments are preferred. There will also be a Flu Shot Clinic on the same day as the blood drive, September 17 11:00 – 4:00.  For those without insurance the cost is $32.00 and they accept payment via:  Cash, check, PayPal, Venmo or cashapp, they will also accept the following insurance:  UHC, Aetna, Humana and Coventry along with BCBS of KC.

Ellett Memorial PACE classes will begin again at the hospital on Monday, September 28, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.  This program is a community–based, non-clinical group exercise program that is designed to help those who have joint and/or muscle problems achieve improved joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve the performance of their daily activities.

 

Ellett Memorial Hospital is hosting a GIRLS DAY OUT on Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.at the Hospital.  Please come join them for their 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Wellness & Awareness Day. Come receive your pre-registered annual mammogram by Diagnostic Imaging Center Mobile Coach and receive a special gift. There will be Breast Cancer speakers sharing their life stories, talking about genetics and facts of Breast Cancer. Door prizes awarded, fellowship, stories from survivors, caregivers and support will be shared. A light lunch served and treats to indulge. Vendors will be set up for your guilty pleasures and essential information available. If you or someone you know is a Breast Cancer survivor, please let them know who and how long, so that they may recognize them and celebrate. The AC Public Library is conducting their Friends of the Best Sellers Program until September 24. The program's purpose is to fund the purchase of new hardback books for the library. You can become a Friend by either choosing a book from the list or requesting another book you've wanted to read and then donating $20.00 for said book. The perks of being a Friend to the Library are that you will be the first person to check the book out, you'll have the opportunity to read other books purchased by Friends first, and you will be honored by having your name placed on a special name plate in the front of each of the Library Friend books. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 - 5:00 and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon.

 

The Sesquicentennial History book has been published is available at the AC Museum, which is open on Friday 1:30-4:30 p.m. until September.25. The book cost is $25 and $30 if mailed

 

MU Extension regional livestock and agriculture business specialists have put together a three-night online cattle management workshop series to educate cattle producers on various management and financial strategies for optimum performance of their cattle operationManagement is key to profitability in a cattle operationThe workshop series will begin on September 22 at 7:00 p. m. with a discussion of general winter cattle feeding management.  Topics covered will include:  cattle nutritional management including grazing management and supplementation strategies  

forage testing and understanding a forage testhay feeding strategies to reduce hay wastageeconomics of hay versus grazing and using winter annuals to improve the grazing season and economics of cattle supplementation.  The second night of the workshop series will be September 29 at 7:00 p. m. with a discussion on winter cow-calf operation feeding management. Topics covered will include: feeding cows and calves through the winterweaning calf management including creep feeding and proper weaning timecow body condition score managementidentifying and culling cows to improve the herd and economics of the operation, economics of weaned calves and economics of raising versus purchasing replacement heifers.  The final night of the workshop series will be October 6 at 7:00 p. m. with a discussion on winter stocker cattle operation feeding management.  Topics covered will includenutritional and grazing management for optimum gain, supplementation strategies including discussion of hay and grain-based supplements as well as additives, preconditioning and vaccination programs, use of implant to improve performance and economics of retaining calves after weaning or direct saleThe workshops are free to the public but registration is required to attend the workshops.  You can sign up for each individual workshop or sign up for all three.  Registration to attend the workshops needs to be done at https://extension2.missouri.edu/events/online-cattle-management-workshop-series one day prior to the workshop that you plan to attend.  These workshops will be done on the ZOOM platform so once you register a ZOOM link will be provided so that you can attend the workshop. The Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation was established in 2000 by a local couple to benefit and carry out the purposes of Ellett Memorial Hospital.  The Foundation has played a major role in the Hospital’s recent renovation/expansion project.  The Foundation is a 501c3 organization and plays an important role in ensuring the future of the Hospital by providing an avenue for individuals, groups and corporations to lend their financial support through tax-deductible contributions.
