On Tuesday, May 6, the Butler Bears hosted the Appleton City Bulldogs in a dominant baseball performance.
The opening inning was quiet, with the Bears retiring the Bulldogs in order and sending just four batters to the plate themselves. Things started to heat up in the second when Davis drew a walk and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Mott, giving Appleton the early lead.
Then the Bears exploded offensively in the bottom half of the second inning, plating nine runs. The scoring frenzy began when Wisdom reached on an error, allowing Tyler Green to score. DK Woolace followed with a single, and Hammett ripped a shot into center to drive in Wisdom and move Woolace to third. Jackson executed a bunt back to the pitcher that scored Woolace, put Hammett on third, and earned him a spot at first. Kash followed with an RBI single that turned into a double on a misplay, bringing in two more runs.
Cox, Wilson, and Wisdom each added RBIs of their own in the inning. After two full innings, the Bears held a commanding 9-1 lead.
The game quieted down after that, with Butler adding one more in the bottom of the fourth when Green’s ground ball brought in Wilson. Appleton City managed their second and final run in the sixth, after Brownsberger doubled and scored on a hard-hit single by Mott.
DK Woolace and Cohen Wilson each notched two hits for Butler. Bryson Kash led the team with two RBIs, while Hammett, Jackson, Kash, Cox, and Green each added a hit apiece.
Green also picked up the win on the mound, going six strong innings, striking out seven, and allowing just three hits and two earned runs.
