The driver failed to yield to the deputy’s emergency equipment and a pursuit ensued.
He fled northbound on I-49 at a high rate of speed.
The suspect crashed his vehicle in a field near SE Outer Rd. and 283rd St. in Harrisonville, then fled on foot.
With assistance from a K9 Unit, he was found near the 283rd St. overpass and placed into custody.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Michael Cox.
Cox has been charged with Aggravated Fleeing A Stop Or Detention (D Felony), Operation A Motor Vehicle In A Careless And Imprudent Manner (A Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (D Misdemeanor).
He’s currently at the Cass County Jail with a $50,000 cash only bond.
***NOTE***
This incident is completely separate from the multi-vehicle crash in Harrisonville just north of State Route 291 around the same time.
The Harrisonville Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol were the primary call takers for that incident.
However, a Cass County deputy did render aid to one of the individuals involved.
