Police Pursuit ends south of Rich Hill

On 5/13/2019, a Deputy attempted to stop a southbound Honda Accord occupied by a Male driver. The vehicle failed to yield to the Deputy and began to pick up speed. The vehicle reached speeds over 100 miles an hour.

Additional Deputies responded to assist and were able to utilize spike strips to flatten one tire just north of Butler.

The driver continued southbound with one flat tire. Additional spikes were being set up at the Vernon/Bates county lines.

Just south of Rich Hill the vehicle attempted to pass a vehicle on the inside fast lane shoulder. The driver over corrected and began to slide in the median. The vehicle began to roll and rolled several times into the northbound lanes. As the vehicle rolled into the northbound lanes it slid down the side of a a northbound motorhome.

The occupants of the motorhome were not injured. The fleeing driver was trapped in the vehicle until deputies were able to force a door open. The driver was then taken to Bates County Memorial Hospital where he was airlifted to a trauma center in Kansas City. The Sheriffs Office was assisted by the Missouri Highway Patrol, Butler Police Department, Rich Hill Police Department, Vernon County Sheriffs Office, Butler Fire Department and the Bates Ciunty Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Douty's Tow. The Motorhome was driven by the owner from the scene.

Charges will be pending on the driver when he is released from the hospital.
