Obituary - John Edward Gutshall

Funeral services for John Gutshall of Adrian, Missouri will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. 

Burial in Scott Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri. Contributions to Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

John Edward Gutshall, age 93 of Adrian, Missouri died Sunday, June 6, 2021 at his home in rural Adrian. He was born November 26, 1927 to Charles Emery and Beulah Levon Scott in Bates County, Missouri.

John is survived by his wife, Wilma Gutshall of Adrian, Missouri; two sons, Kevin Gutshall and wife Cathy of Falls City, Nebraska and Ed Gutshall and wife Cheryl of Adrian, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Fritts and husband Ron and Robin Reed and husband Bill, all of Adrian, Missouri; two brothers, Paul Gutshall and wife Darlene of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Charlie Gutshall of Liberty, Missouri; two sisters, Levon Musgrave and husband John and Dee Ann Abplanalp, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Ginger Gutshall of North Port, Florida and Bonnie Gutshall of Adrian, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Tonya Decker and husband Sterlon, Casey Franke and husband Andy, Suzie Carpenter, Jacob Gutshall and wife Lisa, Kayrin Vincent and husband Troy, Alex Bragg, Zech Bragg, Tina Gaylord and husband Eric, Randy Reed and wife Tina, Garrett Gutshall and wife Dallas and Makalyn Gutshall and fiance` Logan Mabary; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Clyde “Dub”; brother-in-law, Bob Abplanalp; sister-in-law, Charlotte Gutshall; and infant grandson, Joshua Gutshall.

Arrests made in multiple incident, drive-by shooting in Vernon County

Two arrests have been made during a multiple-incident investigation by detectives with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, his office received a report of property damage at
a home on South 1100 road near Moundville, MO over the Memorial Day weekend, that included an arrow being shot through a window, multiple windows being broken out, and a horse being killed.

A second incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 2nd at a residence on E Mission Road that involved multiple shots being fired at the home. Investigators believed the incidents to be connected as the investigation began. On June 3rd, investigators served a search warrant at a residence on the 600 block of N West Street in Nevada, MO and a second search warrant was served on the 100 block of S Prewitt Street in Nevada, MO the following day. Evidence was recovered during the investigation leading to the arrests of two Nevada residents.

Joshua Leer was arrested involving the first incident and has been charged with Stalking 1st Degree, Harassment 1st Degree and Property Damage 1st Degree. His bond has been set at $500,000 cash only.

Chase Leer, the son of Joshua Leer was arrested for the second incident and has been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Shoot At/From Vehicle at a Building/Person, Armed Criminal Action and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. His bond has been set at $500,000 cash only.

Sheriff Jason Mosher said people were in the home when it was shot at, including a child. “This was a reckless and dangerous act that could have hurt or killed someone, so we are grateful that no one was injured during the shooting.” Both Joshua and Chase are being held in the Vernon County Jail.


Obituary - Lisa Ann (Weant) Jacobs

The funeral service for Lisa will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

Officiating at the service will be Pastor Sonny Rosbrugh.

Visitation will be at the Hill & Son Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

Interment will follow the service in Taberville Cemetery, Taberville, Missouri. The family suggests any memorial donations be made to Heartland Hospice.

Lisa Ann (Weant) Jacobs was born on November 26,1962 the daughter of Norman Lee and Betty Dell (Waters) Weant. She passed away peacefully at her home near Taberville, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer, on June 6, 2021, age 58. Lisa grew up in the Appleton City area, where she graduated from Appleton City High School in 1981. Shortly after graduation, Lisa began a long and passionate career in nursing, completing her CMT, LPN, RN, and Licensed Administrator certificates.

Lisa married Steve Koshko on August 1, 1984 and to this union two children were born: Beth and Steve. She then met Kevin Jacobs in 2001, and they were married on October 9, 2012, her husband of nine years. Her family was the most important thing in her life, especially her grandchildren. Apart from this, Lisa enjoyed her nursing career, transforming many lives through her compassionate care. She spent many happy hours working in her yard and garden, and especially loved her flowers. She cherished being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and anything in nature. Lisa dearly loved her animals, which included deer, squirrels, goats, and especially her dogs, who were her constant companions. She will be deeply missed by her many family and friends.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Lee and Betty Dell (Waters) Weant; her step-father, Howard Hutchins; and a nephew, Brett Handley; her grandparents: Ted and Louise Waters and Rusty and Marie Weant.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Jacobs; two children: Beth (Travis) Oehring and Steve Koshko; stepsons: Walt and Broc (Nicole Keith) Koshko, and Dominic Jacobs; grandchildren: Hunter, Braxton, Cale Oehring and Maddox Koshko; one sister, Teddi (Mike) Handley; nieces: Tiffany (Kyle) Poole and Erika Handley; along with many good friends.


Obituary - Shannon Christopher Meek

Shannon Christopher Meek, 48, Deerfield, MO, loving husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2021, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Shannon was born December 27, 1972, in Nevada, MO to Christopher Eugene and Cathy Jo (Schulz) Meek. 

He graduated Nevada High School in 1991 and attended Fort Scott Community College where he received his degree as a Registered Nurse.

He had worked as a flight nurse for Med Flight and Life Net as well as St. John’s Hospital Joplin ICU, Fort Scott Mercy Hospital ER, and was currently working at Via Christi Hospital, Ft. Scott, KS in the ER. 

Shannon was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nevada, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #855 and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Luke Hart Assembly 1953, also served as a member of the Auxiliary Board of the VFW as a Guard and Trustee. Shannon never met a stranger, was a loving person, an excellent RN, the life of the party, and loved to give hugs. He was Pop Pop to his grandkids, who were the love of his life. Shannon was an avid hunter and enjoyed sharing this hobby with his children, grandchildren, and close friends.

On July 30, 1994 he married Erin Beth McCully in Nevada, and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son Taylor Meek, Deerfield, MO; a daughter, Tayvia (A.J.) Greer, Nevada, MO; his mother Cathy (Bill) (Schulz) Davis, Richards, MO; two grandchildren, Weston and Averie Greer; one brother, Shawn (Alisha) Davis, Richard, MO; three sisters, Sharena (Travis) Heathman, Nevada, MO, Coby (Ryan) Fullerton and Judy (William) May; his father and mother-in-law, Les and Sarah McCully, Deerfield, MO; grandfather, William Schulz, Nevada, MO; grandmother Betty Graham, Ft. Scott, KS; two sisters-in-law Meggan (Matt) Witte, Moundville, MO and Kathleen (Nathan) Morton, Aurora, IL; as well as several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his father, Christopher Meek; grandfather, Charles Meek; grandmother, Mary Schulz; grandfather, Bill Graham, and grandparents, William Davis, Sr. and Lucy (Snow) Davis.

Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday June 9th, 2021, at Ferry Funeral Home with Visitation to follow, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Nevada with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A reception will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the VFW Auxiliary Hall.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Early Childhood Education Center with the funeral home serving as custodian.

Main St. that will officially be open for business Wednesday, June 9th.

You never need an appointment as Butler Urgent Medicine is a walk in, first come, first serve clinic for minor emergencies such as cuts, nosebleeds, removal of foreign objects and minor injuries. You can also get care for sudden onset illnesses such as sore throats, urinary tract infections, colds and coughs, sexual health including testing/treatment for STD's and screening for reproductive concerns. Also available are school and sports physicals, COVID testing, pregnancy testing, glucose testing, urinalysis, rapid strep testing and more. There's also treatment for accidental injuries such as sprains/strains, pulled muscles, lacerations, allergies, pneumonia, bronchitis and more. 

Yes, you will see a doctor, not an NP or PA. Butler Urgent Medicine is not intended as a replacement for your primary care physician but can easily handle all your urgent care needs such as EKG's, IV rehydration, facture stabilization, care for eye injuries, ear wax flushes, ingrown toenail removals, wound care and any other procedures not requiring emergent or surgical intervention. They can also do your medication refills but sorry, no controlled pain medications.

When to go to an emergency room instead? If you have a concussion, loss of consciousness (passing out or fainting), have severe chest pain, extreme blood loss, exposed broken bones, suspected stroke, shortness of breath, etc. Anyone who comes to Butler Urgent Medicine deemed in need of critical care will be immediately referred to an emergency room. Likewise if a patient is in need of a specialist non-emergency, a referral will be made; and since the referral comes from an urgent care facility, that patient generally sees the doctor much sooner.

Butler Urgent Medicine is currently accepting Medicare and soon will be adding Medicaid, Ambetter, Tricare Blue Cross and United Health Care insurance. Old 71 Speedway Racing recap from June 4th

Racing recap from June 4th, 2021.....

Midwest Mod/E-Mods seen Jacob Hall flex some muscle as he is getting consistent in his young career. In hot pursuit was the 14c of Josh Paul who was applying pressure in the late stages of the race. Steve Tiedeman rounded out the top 3 only to have his motor expire as the checkers flew. 

USRA B-Mods had a barn burner Shadren Turner made his first appearance to collect his $750 but point leader and ever so smooth Jackie Dalton made him earn it passing each other high and low these two were both bound and determined to win. Brayton Skaggs rounded out 3rd after leading the first few laps. 

USRA A-Mods Dean Willie of Warrensburg flexed muscle early on and got himself a comfortable lead. Kyle Thompson made the trip from Joplin to finish in the 2nd position. In the late stages of the race Kyle closed the gap but fell short due to a caution free race. Point leader Paden Phillips rounded out the top 3. 

Factory Stock seen Brandon Rice once again prove patience leading the way to his 4th win of the season. Cody Ohrenberg was hot on his heels with a comfortable second place and David Schrills made it back to the speedway rounding out the top 3. 

Powri Street Stocks seen point leader Colton Bourland stand victorious with Devin Irvin following him the rough the field to 2nd and Nick Gibson rounding out the top 3. 

Late Model saw Larry Ferris from Nevada Mo finding his way to victory lane. Larry got himself a comfortable lead and never looked back. Shannon Phillips advanced position and finished 2nd while Dustin Walker rounded out the top 3.
