Obituary - Verdean Charlotte Glenn

Verdean Charlotte Glenn, 74, of Butler, MO, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at her home in Butler. 

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Contributions may be made to Operation BBQ.

Verdean was born December 2, 1949, in Harrisonville, Missouri, a daughter of AC and Cleo (Kinney) Crosswhite. She spent her early years in Harrisonville where she was a member of the Harrisonville Rainbow Girls and a 1967 graduate of Harrisonville High School. Her first husband, R.G. Waters, was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on August 17, 1980 in Harrisonville. She was united in marriage to Randall Glenn on June 24, 1985 in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Harrisonville, later moving to Butler where they spent the last 20 years.

Verdean worked as an area manager for Durham School Bus Services in Harrisonville for a number of years. Later, she and Randy spent lots of time together on the road working together as an OTR (Over the Road) team driving their truck. However, her favorite job was working as a disaster relief responder for Farmers Insurance Co. She responded to many disasters from Greensburg, KS, and Joplin, MO tornadoes to wildfires in California. She helped organize meals, helped with laundry, and organized getting pets back to their owners during these disasters.

Verdean enjoyed riding UTV’s and taking flight in hot air balloons in Arizona during the winter. She loved making meals for her family and friends. Spending time in the garden tending to her flowers. But probably one of her most favorite things was getting to spend time with her two grandsons watching them grow up. And we can’t fail to mention her Kool smokes and an ice cold Miller Lite.

Verdean is survived by her husband, Randy, Butler, MO; her son, Jay and wife,Kellie Waters, Butler, MO; grandchildren: Jesse Waters and wife, Raelyn, Justen“Bo” Waters and wife, Kiersten, and Alyssa Waters; one great-granddaughter,Kathryn (Kate) Waters; two sisters, Carol Armintrout and husband, Wayne, SueHelt and late husband Sam; and nieces and nephews: Eric and Glenda Armintrout, Lance and Laura Armintrout, Shawn and Michelle Helt, and Quentin and Shanda Lawrence. Along with many friends she considered family.

BCMH January Employee of the Month Shannon Bjerke

Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) recognizes Shannon Bjerke, CPS as the Employee of the Month for January. Shannon has worked for BCMH since 1998 as the administrative assistant to the Chief Executive Officer. 

She has served in this role as assistant to six different chief executives, including the hospital’s current CEO, Greg Weaver.

“Shannon is always easy to work with,” said the employee who nominated her. “She is trustworthy with all information and can be depended upon to complete tasks quickly and accurately.

She is an encyclopedia when it comes to BCMH history and is helpful whenever I need to understand better who the stakeholders are in any project. She is fair and consistent, knowledgeable about BCMH policies and processes, and treats every employee with courtesy and kindness.”

Shannon is an exemplary employee, and she deserves this recognition.

Short pursuit leads to arrest in St. Clair County

On January 5, 2024 St. Clair County deputies responded to Southeast TT Highway for a report of threats with firearm. Suspects left the scene and after a short pursuit, deputies were able to detain three subjects. 

Jeffery Fensom was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest/Detention/Stop by Fleeing-Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury/Death to Any Person, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. 

Lance Spencer was arrested and is being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Amphetamine or Methamphetamine, and Assault 1st Degree or Attempt- Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim. 

Dani Spencer was arrested and is being charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Amphetamine or Methamphetamine.

Butler man arrested after traffic stop

On Wednesday January 10th around 3:07 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 48 year old William A. McCloud of Butler, Missouri after a traffic stop.

Mr. McCloud was arrested on the following warrants 1.) Felony Bates County Sheriff's Office Warrant - Dangerous Drugs 2.) Driving While Suspended 3.) Misdemeanor Traffic Warrants (X3).

William A. McCloud was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.

Obituary - Marion Sue Harris

Marion Sue Harris, age 73, of Belton Missouri passed away on January 9, 2024. She was born in Clinton, Oklahoma on August 1, 1950, to Frank and Billie Sills. Marion "Sue" was raised and lived in Wichita, Kansas where she met her husband William Martin Harris. Sue was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. 

She dedicated her life to loving and caring for every person that she met. Most of all she was a proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren, Kennedi, Astin, Brianne, Krystian, Mkai, Ayden, Brian, and Reygan. These grandchildren truly were the light and joy of her life.

Growing up with a father that worked hard as a machinist and a mother as a registered nurse, Sue instilled a strong work ethic into her family, leading by example, and doing anything it took to provide for her loved ones, including the numerous pets her children brought home to live in the backyard! Her generosity exuded and she always welcomed friends and family with open arms into her home. It was the simple things in life that brought joy to Sue, home cooked family meals, cheering on her children in sports, camping at the lake, laughing with her grandchildren, or just a quiet movie and popcorn date night with her husband.

"In Everything, do unto others as you would have them do to you". This is the golden rule Sue lived by and instilled in her family. She carried on her spiritual mentorship from her parents and always stayed faithful through good and tough times. Her legacy of warmth, her contagious laugh and smile, her kindness and inclusive spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sue is survived by her husband William M. Harris and two sons, Kurtis Jantz and daughter 'n law Yasmine Boisson and son Brian Jantz and daughter 'n law Sue Ann Jantz, brother David Sills and sister 'n law Sandy Sills, brother Brad Sills and sister 'n law Tessa Sills.

May Grandma Sue rest in peace. Cremation with Celebration of life in Spring.

Butler man escapes serious injury in Bates County crash

On Tuesday January 9th around 10:00 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Ellett Memorial Hospital EMS and Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on H Highway just west of KK Highway neat the county line.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the westbound 2008 Toyota Highlander driven by 56 year old Michael N. Ruff of Butler, Missouri lost control on the wet roadway and struck and fence and ditch.

Mr. Ruff sustained minor injuries and he was transported by ambulance to the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

Nevada woman injured in two vehicle crash in Vernon County

On Wednesday January 10th around 7:25 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on BB Highway around 2 miles south of Nevada/

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when northbound 2015 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 17 year old juvenile female from Nevada, MO was northbound and failed to yield to, and pulled into the path of, a southbound 2023 Jeep Gladiator driven by 65 year old Lisa Francis from Nevada, MO.

Lisa Francis sustained minor injuries and she was transported by EMS to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.
