Obituary - Eugene Herbert Wirsig

The funeral mass for Gene will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Clinton, Missouri.

The rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the church.

The officiant will be Fr. Jim Taranto.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Holy Rosary School.

Eugene Herbert Wirsig passed away on February 26, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 82 under the loving care of his daughter-in-law Tammy Wirsig R.N. and surrounded by his family. The son of Leo Herbert and Mattie (Tally) Wirsig, Gene was born on April 20, 1937. He spent his formative years in the Deepwater area, graduating from Deepwater High School in 1955.

Immediately following the completion of his education, Gene joined the Army National Guard, serving his country proudly. During these years he met Barbara Ann McElroy and they were married on March 9, 1963. To this union four children were born: David, Kim, Christopher, and Karen. He continued a lifelong calling in agriculture on the same land where he was born, working with his wife and children, where they operated a dairy farm and had row crops. The family operated Wirsig Dairy with home milk delivery. In 1988 he began a new career of team truck driving with his wife, where they enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery throughout this country.

Gene was a very hard worker, who spent many hours happily laboring on his trucks. He also dearly enjoyed taking his antique John Deere tractors to pulls; so-much-so that he helped build and maintain a track in Deepwater, Missouri. He, his sons, and friends hosted many tractor pulls, where the entire community participated. He also enjoyed cheering on the Lakeland Vikings. Nevertheless, his family and especially his grandchildren were the most important part of his life. Gene was also a faithful and active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Additionally, in his many years of trucking he eagerly attended many services across the country.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mattie Wirsig; one brother, Lyle Wirsig.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; four children, David Wirsig, Kim (Paul) Krueger; Christopher (Tammy) Wirsig, and Karen Iszard; 12 grandchildren: Brandon, Logan (Brittany), Rebecca, Nikita, Christian, Brianna, Anna, Charles, Travis, Caleb, Pamelia, and Josh; three great-grandchildren: Brayden, Gracie, and Ellie; three sisters, Mina Dell Lacy, Ruth Roth and Dixie (Gerald) Atchison; and one special daughter-in-law, Pam Straw and her daughter Megan.

Special recognition was given to outgoing Extension Council members Jerry Ferguson and Marilyn Duckworth (not present).

New Council member, Gwen Ford and Abby Salazar was sworn in by Marlene Wainscott. The other Council members include: Brian Gillis, Hope Campbell, Sharon Arnold, Shannon Crawford, Myra Colin, Libby Foster, Larry Hacker, and Missy LanCaster.

Special presentations were made to the Missouri Century Farm honorees. Bates County honored four Missouri Century Farms: Motheral/Black/Schapeler Farm, a 160-acre farm acquisitioned in 1861—owned by Wayne and Josephine Schapeler; Swickhamer Farm, a 80-acre farm acquisitioned in 1919—owned by L. Interest in the program continued after 1976. The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and University of Missouri Extension planned a 10-year update in 1986 called the "Century Farm" program. This program has been sustained as a yearly event with over 100 farms recognized each year. In 2008, the Missouri Farm Bureau became a program co-sponsor.

A big thank you from Jackwagon BBQ

We want to say a huge Thank You this morning to the Butler Fire Department and the Adrian Fire Department for responding to our call for help. We also want to say Thank You to Jami Page for calling when she noticed an abnormal amount of smoke coming from our smoker area. On arrival the smoker had glitched and an overflow of wood in the fire area. This caused an unusually larger fire in the chamber where the meat is. The fire was contained in the smoker and the fire department was requested out of an over abundance of caution.

The good news is we will be open today as usual. Please cut us some slack as we are a little behind on our schedule but we will still be open.

We are a humorous family and I think our daily special will represent that fact. Thanks for the community support!

Fire Press Release:

Obituary - Don E. Evans

Don E. Evans, age 69, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at Sunrise Home, Scottsdale, AZ. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11 AM at Vansant-Mills Chapel with visitation one hour prior. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kennedy's Disease Association and may be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories may be left at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Donald Eugene Evans entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of February 24, 2020 with his children by his side. He was born in a small town in Chanute, Kansas on Sept 7, 1950. He battled Kennedy’s disease since his diagnosis in 2005. He was originally given 2 years to live and fought hard for 13+ years.

Don was a man of convicted faith who believed the truth of the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. So much that he would later be disciple and become a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Don’s greatest testimony of faith though was in that he lead his family by example in generosity, gratitude, grace and most importantly endless unconditional love.
Don is survived by his 2 brothers- Ron and Tom, 2 sister-in-laws Connie and Patti. His big brother and best friend Bob passed away 9 months ago in Kansas. He also has 7 children- son Courtney (dear one, Katie, previous daughter-in-law Tracy), daughter Desiree, son Lance, daughter Shauna, son Mike, son Travis, daughter-in-law Amanda, and son Derek. Don has 13 grandchildren- Cendall, Chloe, Gracie, Zack, Kyle, Gianna, Nikita, Nick, Emma, Brooks, Alexsis, Gabby, Abram, and Corbin.

Don also leaves behind countless friends whom he considered his extended family.
He was an avid sports fan. You could always catch him in front of a TV any time his beloved Jayhawks were playing. His normal attire was pants and one of his many Kansas Jayhawks shirts, jackets, or hoodies. Recently he watched his Kansas City Chiefs win their 2nd Super Bowl. He was proud that he watched both super bowl wins which were separated by 50 years. Not only was he an avid sports fan, he was a great athlete as well. Anyone close to him has heard many stories of his legacy in Madison playing basketball, baseball, football and golf. Throughout his golfing years, he had 3 hole in one’s. He might have a record for being the only person ever to be cursing that he hit a bad shot as his makes a hole in one.

Don will be greatly missed by everyone that has crossed his path.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton.
