MoDOT News Release: Snow Threatens Yet Another Wednesday Commute
JEFFERSON CITY – It’s starting to seem like you can tell what day of the week it is in Missouri by the weather report.
Precipitation will enter the state overnight Tuesday, starting as snow and transitioning to rain during the day on Wednesday. Rain will turn back to snow Wednesday evening before it moves off to the east Thursday. Wednesday and Thursday commutes may be impacted. Temperatures on Thursday morning will drop to single digits in many areas.
Anticipated snow totals range from 2 to 4 inches in the northern and central parts of the state to a light dusting in the south. Extreme cold temperatures on the back end of the snow could quickly freeze damp roadways and make road treatments ineffective. Since midday rains would wash away salt and chemicals, treating ahead of the snowfall may not be practical.
Consult your local forecast as well as those in areas of the state in which you plan to travel. Road conditions are available online on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org. The map is also available as a free app for Apple and Android devices.
MoDOT also provides road condition information through its Customer Service Center. Dial 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636) to speak with a customer service representative 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
