Obituary - Adeline “Angie” Mary (Strick) Stevens

Adeline “Angie” Mary (Strick) Stevens, 86, passed away early on Thursday morning February 28, 2019 at her home in Nevada. Angie was born August 25, 1932 in Kirk, Colorado to Paul Joseph and Alice Mary (Waller) Strick.

Angie graduated from Kirk High School Class of 1950 and moved to Lenexa, KS to live with her sister Agnes and brother-in-law Orville to secure a job. While living and working in Kansas City, she accompanied her sister Eileen to Fort Riley, KS to pick up Eileen’s husband and on that trip she met her soon to be husband, R.A. Angie was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed growing flowers and gardening, and worked for several years at Gragg’s Greenhouse during the planting season. She was truly in her element if she had her hands in the dirt and was able to make things grow. Angie also enjoyed traveling back to Colorado to see friends and family as often as health and weather would allow. She enjoyed hosting family dinners, and being able to help her children, and grandchildren whenever and however possible. She especially enjoyed traveling to Florida, stopping at various beaches along the way to walk in the sand. One of her great joys in life was feeding and watching “her” birds in the back yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Agnes Clarke and Eileen Russell; and one brother, Paul Strick.

Angie is survived by her husband R.A. Stevens, Jr, of the home; children, Caroline Stevens, Nevada, Lora Miller (Butch) Nevada, Dennis Stevens (Dana) Springfield, Lisa Armstrong (Bryan), Nevada; grandchildren, Kyle, Logan and Jacob Armstrong; Dominick Stevens, Delana Wood, Andre and Anthony Miller, Casey Sims and Victoria (Tori) Miller; great-grandchildren Jordan, Macy, Trenton, Drew, Hayden, Holden, Levi, Kamdon, and Kilby, one great-great-grandchild, Hadley; sisters, Theresa Adamson, Wray, CO, Jean Gilchrist, Limon, CO, Jane Bouland, Conyers, GA; brothers, Roy Strick, Denver, CO, Henry Strick, Joes, CO, Walter Strick, Denver, CO, and Daniel Strick, Loveland, CO; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. A Rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home.

Weekend Snow, Then Cold

Well, you are already asking so there is no reason for us to try and sugar coat it if we just don't have any good news. At this point it just becomes band aid time, where you rip it off fast so it hurts less!

Kansas City is not feeling like itself

The main story for today and the foreseeable future will be the cold. Wind chills this morning are in the single digits to single digits below zero so bundle up as you head out this morning! We as meteorologists love to quantify things (which our families just LOVE..but we won't discuss that here) so, with this forecast we wanted to show where the temperatures we are about to experience are representative of for this time of year.

So, just remember if this cold has got you feeling a bit down and not feeling like yourself don't worry none of Kansas City is feeling like itself!

From the Clinton School District

Through the news and social media, you may be aware of dangers surrounding what is being referred to as the "Momo Challenge", the latest in a series of concerning online trends. In recent days, we have heard several of our own students talking about this challenge.

The Momo Challenge involves a disfigured head attached to a bird’s body encouraging children to harm or kill themselves, and has infiltrated some popular digital platforms, such as YouTube Kids.

While these reports are alarming, we urge parents not to be panicked. Instead, parents should be aware of this viral trend so that they may have honest conversations with their child about safe and appropriate online activity. Below are some helpful tips to keep your child safe online.

*Bringing up the MoMo Challenge specifically may lead children to investigate it themselves. Instead, consider asking them whether they have encountered anything online that caused them to be worried or upset.

*If your child is aware of this trend, remind them that MoMo is not a real person, and cannot directly harm them.
*Remind children never to contact strangers online, regardless of the method.
*Tighten device settings and parental controls.
*Report and block any content that is harmful or disturbing.
*Supervise your child’s online activity. Limiting video games and YouTube use to shared family spaces. Keep an eye out for unknown phone numbers or email addresses.

Thank you for your vigilance in helping us keep our students safe.

Freezing Drizzle may cause hazardous road conditions tonight thru Wednesday morning

In the past couple of weeks we have tried to bring you the daily weather in a jovial fashion (except for that one grumpy forecaster we have) no matter what it brought. Whether it be snow with a smile, cold with a cuddle, or a thaw with warm thoughts.

Some forecasts you liked, some you didn't but, one common theme seemed that nobody wanted the ice so, of course, guess what we have for you today (more like tonight)!?! Yep, you guessed it...(we are so sorry!)...

Monday, February 25, 2019
